Hydronephrosis of the right kidney
The disease is characterized by the expansion of the pyelocaliceal system of the kidney, which is constantly increasing. This system consists of several "cups" in which urine accumulates before it enters the urinary tract. Simply put, when too much urine builds up, the cups expand spontaneously. This is hydronephrosis of the right kidney.
Possible causes of the diseaseThe disease can be due to various factors. Doctors distinguish between congenital hydronephrosis, which occurs due to an abnormality in the urinary tract or kidney tissue that the baby has, and secondary — it develops as a result of urolithiasis or urinary tract injury.
Hydronephrosis of the right kidney goes through several stages. The first of them is characterized by a sharp increase in urine pressure in the cups, as a result of which the structure of the muscle fibers that make up the system is disrupted, and the kidney itself is subjected to pressure. It is logical that the process of urine production is difficult; if treatment is not started in time, the renal glomeruli and tubules can atrophy. The farther this process goes, the more the tissue of which the system is made thinner. The pelvis and calyx become larger with time, and the kidney drops.
The effects of hydronephrosis
Hydronephrosis of the right kidney must be treated. If this is not done, kidney failure may develop . Stopping the kidney can lead to intoxication and result in the death of the patient. Another possible consequence is urolithiasis, which can be aggravated by infection. The most common complication in this case is a rupture of the calyx.
Symptoms of the diseaseIf you were wondering “how to treat the kidneys,” you should know what signs you should pay attention to. Experts call three main symptoms: pain, hematuria and an increase in kidney size.
Pain can be very diverse. At the initial stage of the disease, a person usually complains of renal colic; in the evening, as a rule, dull pain occurs in the lumbar region, which passes by night. Attacks can be caused by physical exertion or general overwork. Hematuria, or, more simply, the presence of blood in the urine, is observed with increased pressure in the cups, as well as in the presence of kidney stones. Another characteristic symptom is an enlarged kidney. In people with an asthenic physique, it can even be felt through the front wall of the abdomen.
Kidney pain: treatment
In order to get rid of hydronephrosis, it is necessary to eliminate its cause. For example, if it is caused by kidney stones, you need to direct all the forces to remove them. In most cases, the only adequate method is surgery. If the pyelocaliceal complex is narrowed, it is expanded during the operation: the tissues are longitudinally dissected and sutured by the surgeon in the transverse direction. With uncomplicated hydronephrosis, surgery is not necessary, however, the patient should regularly visit a doctor and adhere to a special diet: include a large amount of vegetables and fruits in the diet, drink plenty of fluids and, if possible, refuse sodium chloride.
