Antibacterial suppositories (suppositories) are a special dosage form intended for administration into the body cavity. At room temperature, they retain their hardness. When ingested, antibacterial suppositories begin to spread. This is due to its higher temperature, relative to the external environment.
For the introduction into the vagina, special suppositories are used, which are called vaginal. They can be spherical, ovoid or flat with a rounded end. Their mass, as a rule, is about four grams.
In the composition of vaginal suppositories, various, giving them a form, basis and medications are used.
As components, vegetable and animal fats, cocoa butter, including in combination with paraffin, are used. All of these substances are pretreated. A gelatin-glycerin mixture is also used as a base.
The medicinal components that make up the suppositories can penetrate the bloodstream, strict adherence to all recommendations for prescribed dosages is necessary. Suppositories are used topically as contraceptives or medicines.
Vaginal suppositories are antibacterial injected deep into the vagina in the evening (at night). Their action is aimed at combating infections. When antibacterial suppositories dissolve, the drug substance begins its effect. The suppository base after flows out of the vagina.
The most popular antibacterial suppositories contain hexicon, betadine and pimafucin. All of them are used in the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases.
Hexicon is an antiseptic. It is widely used in therapeutic and prophylactic measures for inflammatory female diseases. Hexicon is often used to prevent sexually transmitted infections after unprotected sexual contact.
Betadine has a wide range of effects on fungi and bacteria, protozoa and viruses (even, according to some reports, on HIV). This drug component is capable of secreting active iodine, which, when combined with the proteins of the causative agent of the infection, coagulates them, killing it.
Pimafucin is a highly effective and non-toxic drug. It is included in the medication for thrush.
It should be noted that the medicinal components after ingestion enter either the acidic or alkaline environment, as a result of which they are partially destroyed. About ten to twelve percent of the dose penetrates the blood. Modern medicine has a large number of drugs for local use. The advantage of suppositories is, of course, the ability to be immediately absorbed into the blood. In this case, one should not forget about the correct use of medicines, possible side effects. Therefore, the use of drugs should be monitored by a specialist.
Antibacterial therapy involves strict adherence to the regimen. The choice of a particular drug, the duration of use always depends on the conditions for the development of infection and the nature of its localization.
In many cases, treatment is carried out for both partners simultaneously. This, in particular, applies to ailments that are spread sexually (for example, urethritis).
The effectiveness of the therapeutic course in some diseases is determined by the duration of the use of medicines. So, for example, with exacerbation of chronic prostatitis, antibiotic treatment with fluoroquinolones should be at least thirty-four weeks, with cotrimoxazole, at least twelve months.
