The medicine "Clarithromycin" is part of the pharmacological group of azalides and macrolides. The drug is intended for oral administration. It is available in the form of syrup, tablets, capsules (Clarithromycin-Verte).

The instruction, characterizing the tool, indicates its ability to interfere with the production of certain proteins by bacterial cells necessary for their existence.

A medicine is prescribed to eliminate various infections of a bacterial nature. These, in particular, include lesions in the paranasal sinuses, respiratory tract, tonsils. The drug "Clarithromycin" instruction recommends use for sexually transmitted diseases provoked by chlamydia, with ear and some skin infections.

Do not prescribe medication for porphyria, severe liver diseases, hypersensitivity (to other antibiotic drugs, including macrolides). The medicine "Clarithromycin" instruction does not allow for use during pregnancy and lactation.

As a rule, to eliminate bacterial infections, an average dose of 250-500 milligrams is prescribed every twelve hours. The duration of therapy is from one to two weeks.

Children from six months of age and older are prescribed 7.5 milligrams of Clarithromycin (suspension) per kilogram of weight (up to 500 milligrams) every twelve hours. The duration of therapy is ten days.

The syrup does not have significant differences from other dosage forms of the drug.

The drug begins to show effect for two hours. The maximum effectiveness of the drug is noted after two or five days from the start of treatment.

The instruction does not recommend interrupting the course of taking Clarithromycin. In case of skipping a dosage, the drug should be taken immediately. However, if little time remains before the next use, the previous dose can be skipped without doubling the next. If the medicine is prescribed twice a day, you should wait about five to six hours before taking the next dosage.

In acute infections, it is necessary to drink the medicine in accordance with the doctor's recommendations. Even if relief comes, you should not prematurely stop taking the drug.

Medication "Clarithromycin" instruction allows for use on an empty stomach and with food. It is recommended to increase the volume of fluid per day.

Patients older than sixty years, especially those with kidney disease, may require low dosages.

In the course of research, the effect of the drug on the ability to drive vehicles and other mechanisms was not established.

With an overdose of the drug, discomfort in the stomach can occur. Severe nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting may be noted. Call a doctor immediately.

The drug "Clarithromycin" is not allowed for use by persons who have ever (in history) allergic manifestations to erythromycin and other macrolides. You should not take the medication at the same time with such medicines as "Cisapride", "Pimozide", "Astemizole". The patient should notify the attending physician if he has already been prescribed such medicines as Zidovudine, Rifampin, Rifabutin, Warfarin, Theophylline, Digoxin, Carbamazepine.

Taking medication can cause certain side effects. In some cases, colitis, liver damage, allergic reactions, and bleeding disorders are noted. In addition, the drug can cause heart rhythm disorders in patients with cardiac pathologies. In some cases, the occurrence of diarrhea (in mild form), minor pain or discomfort in the stomach, and vomiting are likely. As practice shows, these side effects are rare. However, when they appear, it is necessary to stop taking the medication and consult a doctor immediately.
