British band Yes: discography and success story

The British band Yes was organized in 1968 in London by John Anderson (vocals) and Chris Squire (bass). They were united by common views on the development of progressive rock music, and both performers already had some experience working in

musical groups. The first line-up of Yes also included Peter Banks (guitar, vocals) and Bill Braford (drums). In 1969, the band released its first album, entitled Yes. The work of young performers was highly praised by music critics and received excellent reviews in Rolling Stone magazine. Yes, the band included a very unusual version of The Byrds' single "I See You" on this album. Rolling Stone magazine noted the special musical style and sophisticated taste in the performing skills of young musicians. In the second album, released in 1970, the band Yes used the sound of a symphony orchestra in the arrangements. In the UK, the band's songs were very popular, but in other countries, so far no one knew anything about Yes.

Musicians strive to maximize the use of new technologies in their work and update their composition. Guitarist Steve Howe and keyboardist Rick Wakeman come to the group. Yes has its own signature sound. New work - Close To The Edge album, released in 1972, was the peak of Yes. The album goes gold, and the musicians begin triumphant tours in the United States. Despite commercial success, musicians left the band Yes in subsequent years, and its composition is constantly changing. In 1976, the group began to collaborate with new producer R. Thomas Baker, who had previously worked with Queen. The new album Yes, which was released in 1977 under the name Going For The One, immediately soared to the top of the national charts, and in the USA took eighth place. In the following years, the group begins to fever: new work is not accompanied by previous success, disagreements begin, and Anderson and Wakeman leave the group. Only in 1980 did Yes release the newly successful Drama album. Subsequent Yes concerts at Madison Square Garden are gathering an unprecedented full house. Despite this, the band leaves guitarist Howe, one of the best members of Asia.

Group Changes

The updated line-up of Yes in 1983 was born on the album 90125, which immediately became platinum, and the single titled Owner Of A Lonely Heart took first place in the American charts. Yes music moves away from art rock towards pop music, which is not justified in the future. In the 90s, Yes’s songs were poorly received,

concerts are canceled. For the first time after a long break for the fortieth anniversary of Yes in 2008, it is planned to collect the best roster and go on a world tour. But the tour had to be canceled due to a serious illness of John Anderson. The rock band Yes went on tour only in the USA with the new vocalist Benoit David, and instead of Rick Wakeman, his son Oliver performed. Again, the main cast of Yes gathered in 2011 to record the album Fly from Here, the twenty-first. This work was well received by fans of the group, and the musicians again went on a tour of North America. At these concerts, songs from the three best albums of the group are fully performed: The Yes album, Close to the Edge and Going for the One. After the tour, the musicians announce that they intend in 2013 to gather again to work in the studio on a new album.
