The drug "Dimexidum" refers to instructions that can exert a local anesthetic effect, eliminate inflammation and have a detrimental effect on pathogenic microorganisms. The medication also affects the microflora that are resistant to antibiotics, changing its sensitivity.
The drug "Dimexide", the instruction informs, has the following indications for use:
- Therapy of rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, deforming osteoarthritis, arthropathy, sprain and other disorders of the musculoskeletal system of an inflammatory nature.
- Treatment of bruises, traumatic infiltrates, edema, purulent wounds, abscesses, chronic and acute osteomyelitis, streptoderma and erythema nodosum.
The medicine "Dimexide" - composition. In one bottle of medication contains fifty or one hundred milliliters of dimethyl sulfoxide (depending on the volume of the container).
The considered pharmaceutical agent is used, as a rule, in the form of an aqueous solution (thirty- or fifty-percent) for applying compresses or introducing tampons.
A dressing impregnated with the drug is applied to problem areas, while capturing healthy areas of the skin. For the treatment of erysipelas and ulcers (trophic), this drug is used in the form of an aqueous solution several times during the day.
In therapeutic procedures aimed at eliminating eczema, the drug "Dimexide" instruction recommends using in the form of compresses soaked in a 40-90% solution.
To provide local analgesic action, a 25-50% solution of the drug is recommended. It should be used two to three times a day (a compress is applied).
Also, the drug is widely used in the postoperative period with purulent complications provoked by Pseudomonas aeruginosa or staphylococcus. In this case, the medication is applied to infiltrates and festering wounds.
The drug "Dimexide", the instruction reports, may cause some side effects. Among them: itching, erythema, dizziness, sleep disturbance, diarrhea, dermatitis, adynamia. In rare cases (with individual intolerance to the components of the drug), you may encounter bronchospasm, nausea, and vomiting.
The drug "Dimexide" - contraindications: severe atherosclerosis and cardiovascular failure, impaired liver and kidney function, angina pectoris, stroke, coma, pregnancy, breastfeeding, cataracts, glaucoma, age less than twelve years. In addition, this medication is prescribed with extreme caution to patients over sixty.
It should be borne in mind that the drug "Dimexide" enhances the effect exerted by ethanol (when taking alcoholic beverages, the rate of excretion of the medication in question decreases). This medicine also increases the effects of insulin, acetylsalicylic acid and medicines such as Butadion, Quinidine, Nitroglycerin, Monomycin, Streptomycin.
Dimexidum is not prohibited to use in parallel with antibacterial and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as with the heparin drug (in the treatment of thrombophlebitis).
Symptoms of an overdose of this pharmaceutical agent are urticaria, itching, swelling. In the above cases, the use of the drug should be discontinued and thoroughly rinse the affected areas.
It is undesirable to allow contact of the drug with mucous membranes and organs of vision. If this happens, rinse the indicated area with clean running water at room temperature.
The shelf life of the drug is two years. It is not recommended to use the drug after the date indicated on the factory packaging.
