Stomatitis is an inflammatory process in the oral mucosa that is caused by an infection and is painful. Inflammation involves the mucous membrane of the oral cavity, tongue, palate and lips. Stomatitis, the symptoms of which are terribly unpleasant, is very common in both children and adults. There are many reasons for its occurrence. Among them are other varieties of stomatitis (acute herpetic and FMD), smoking, allergic reactions, vitamin deficiencies, dental diseases, various bacterial and viral infections. According to experts, the causes of stomatitis can also be traumatic lesions of the oral mucosa, as well as specific causes: syphilis, fungal infections, tuberculosis, poisoning.
Stomatitis: symptoms.
Symptoms of stomatitis can be different, depending on the type of disease and its clinical presentation. It is known that stomatitis can be catarrhal, ulcerative and aphthous. The first signs of the disease can be found on the tongue, the inside of the cheeks and mucous membranes of the mouth. The catarrhal form is characterized by swelling, redness and increased bleeding. Ulcerative stomatitis, the symptoms of which include a grayish coating on the tongue, is accompanied by fever. There are frequent cases when catarrhal stomatitis develops into ulcerative. The danger of infection lies in the fact that it can spread to other organs. Among the consequences of stomatitis are purulent formations and lesions of the oral mucosa.
What does stomatitis look like?
With stomatitis, small oval or round sores appear in the oral cavity, the center of which is covered with a thin white film. The edges of the sores are even. Education itself is very painful and interferes with eating, moving lips and tongue.
Stomatitis treatment.
Stomatitis, the symptoms of which have made itself felt, requires immediate diagnosis and treatment. The slightest inflammation on the lip or cheek, which may seem frivolous, should be cause for concern and to see a doctor. The period of exacerbation of chronic stomatitis is spring and autumn. This form of the disease can have serious consequences and complications. That is why chronic stomatitis requires serious therapy with antiviral and antibacterial drugs and regular visits to the dentist.
As a preventive measure, experts advise adhering to the rules of oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist.
There is also such a thing as fungal stomatitis . This disease is an inflammation of the oral mucosa that occurs as a result of insufficient oral care, debilitating diseases, taking corticosteroids and antibiotics. The causative agents are Candida fungi. Popularly, fungal stomatitis is called thrush. With thrush, the tongue is covered with a white coating, under which there is a red surface. If fungal stomatitis is detected in babies, redness can be noticed on the oral mucosa, which soon becomes covered with plaque. A child may refuse to eat due to pain, and his salivation increases.
In adults, fungal stomatitis appears against the background of the development of diabetes mellitus or immunodeficiency and, as a rule, develops into a chronic form. If you do not take timely measures to treat the disease, the development of stomatitis can lead to complications. Sometimes fungal stomatitis affects tooth decay. With fungal stomatitis, nystatin, levorin, various vitamins, and also iodized potassium are prescribed. You can wipe the oral cavity with a solution of soda.
In any case, doctors advise not to linger with the treatment of any form of stomatitis, since even a small problem with the oral mucosa can cause serious diseases, which will be very difficult to get rid of.
