'Doxycycline': application, recommendations and properties

During many infectious diseases, attending physicians prescribe a dosage form such as Doxycycline. The use of this drug should be carried out in accordance with the recommendations of a specialist and take into account not only the volume, but also the time of administration. Since "Doxycycline" belongs to the group of antibiotics, its careless use can not only not facilitate the course of the disease, but also significantly harm human health.

Composition and properties of "Doxycycline"

The name of this drug, recognized by international medical organizations, is β€œDoxycycline”. Previously - during the period of the existence of the USSR - it could be purchased in pharmacies in the form of dixicycline hydrochloride.

It is a semi-synthetic bacteriostatic antibiotic of the tetracycline group, which has a fairly large spectrum of action on intracellular pathogens. "Doxycycline" acts by suppressing protein synthesis in the microbe cell and disrupting the aminoacyl-RNA bonds with the 30S subunit in the ribosomal membrane.

Many types of staphylococci, as well as microorganisms such as Neisseria meningitidis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Entamoeba histolytica, Salmonella spp and many others, are highly sensitive to this drug. In addition, if you are prescribed "Doxycycline", its use will reduce the activity of pathogens of many infectious diseases.

Among them are plague, anthrax and tularemia microbes, cholera vibrio, various chlamydia, rickettsia, brucella and legionella. At the same time, it almost does not affect many strains of Proteus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Many tetracycline drugs have similar properties. But still, Doxycycline is considered one of the best. The use of this drug allows less depression of the intestinal flora, while it is better absorbed, and its effect is longer.

Indications for use

This antibiotic is available in a variety of forms: in the form of capsules, lyophilisate, solution for intravenous injection, conventional tablets and coated tablets. Moreover, the effect of the drug does not depend on the form in which you purchased it, whether it be a solution or tablets. "Doxycycline" affects different pathogens of infections in different ways, therefore, in any case, its use should be agreed with the attending physician, and the method and dose are calculated strictly individually.

The drug has found its application in the treatment of infectious diseases of the respiratory tract, ENT organs, urogenital system, gastrointestinal tract, bile ducts, soft tissues and skin. In addition, it will be useful for infectious diseases of the eyes, typhoid, syphilis, frambesia, cholera, malaria, actinomycosis and many others.

Also, "Doxycycline", the use of which is due to a wide spectrum of action, is useful in complex therapy in the treatment of trachoma, ornithosis, pertussis, sepsis, peritonitis, psittacosis, osteomyelitis, etc. It is prescribed as a prophylactic against purulent complications in the postoperative period and during short trips in areas where malaria strains are resistant to pyrimethamine-sulfadoxine and chloroquine.

Most often, the drug is used in one go, or the daily norm is divided into two - in the morning and in the evening. Moreover, to create the necessary workable concentration of this drug, it is necessary to use a double portion in the first dose. We should not forget that it has a prolonged, that is, a long period of validity and does not need multiple doses throughout the day.

As with other antibiotics, you must carefully listen to your body's reaction to doxycycline. Side effects of this drug can be expressed in an increase in intracranial pressure, as a result of which there is a decrease in appetite, headache, and vomiting. In addition, a toxic effect in the form of dizziness and a feeling of instability is possible.

The digestive system may respond to antibiotic use by nausea, enterocolitis, diarrhea, constipation, glossitis or dysphagia. Allergic reactions in the form of a rash, itching, angioedema are also possible.

There are other side effects of the drug. They largely depend on the individual intolerance of the tetracycline group or the characteristics of the infectious disease. In this case, it is recommended to stop taking the drug and consult a doctor.
