How to draw a beach and sea using pencil and gouache

Artists who paint the sea learn this all their lives. After all, to convey all the violence of the elements, the game of colors, the nature of the waves, the depth of shades is not so simple. Therefore, the marine painter specializes only in work with paintings that convey a different state of the sea. Before moving on to painting with paints, let's look at how to draw the sea and the beach with a pencil in stages.

Main contours

The first step is to arrange the sheet vertically and draw a horizontal line approximately in the middle. She will separate the sky and water. Then draw a line of coast of slight curvature on either side of the sheet, at your discretion. It should start near the horizon and move down to the opposite corner of the sheet. Next, it is important to imagine how to draw a beach and the sea, what will be on the shore, and in what state will the elements be. On the coast, closer to the midline, you can draw the contours of stones or rocks. Over the horizon at the edge of the leaf, draw a couple of small hills, which are mountains in the distance. At the top of the sheet, indicate the sun. On the land, which is the beach, draw the trunk of the future palm, slightly curved towards the sea. On the top of the tree, draw round coconuts and large sprawling palm leaves. Next to the trees you can add a large open umbrella and under it an extended sun lounger. Near the water, depict a small sand castle and a balloon. Draw the contours of cloud clusters near the sun and several gulls soaring in the heavenly space. At this stage, we looked at how to draw a beach and sea.

Shading

On the surface of the water you need to draw small waves. To do this, with a simple pencil, apply a few strokes to the sea surface. Shade the surface of the sea near the boulders, this will visually enliven the waves. Lightly rub the rough edges with an eraser to soften the outline of the pencil. The surface of the sea can also be smoothed by rubbing it with a finger or a piece of paper. These manipulations help to understand how to draw a beach and the sea, so that they look more realistic. Repeat the same actions with the coast - shade the surface and slightly rub, creating the appearance of sand on the beach. Extra dark areas in the picture can be removed with an eraser. Stones and mountains should be the darkest areas, so shade them with a stronger pressure on the pencil and an increased frequency of movement. On the clouds, draw a weak hatching sufficient to visualize the movement of air. On the additional details in the figure, draw strokes along the contour, creating the shadow and depth of the object.

Colorful picture

We looked at how to draw a beach and sea with a pencil. Next, use gouache. In this case, the work is carried out without a pencil, but we will take the main contours of the previous drawing as a basis. We mark the horizon on paper and divide the heavenly space into three parts. The upper one will be blue, then pink and then yellow. Wet, washed with a brush blur the rough transition from one color to another. On the lower half of the sheet, we again create three color lines, starting from the horizon - blue, sand, orange, creating the sea, coastal zone and the beach itself. Blur the transitions again without touching the middle line. We use white gouache to designate the clouds and paint the top pink, the bottom dark blue. Remembering our pencil drawing, we draw rocks, taking a gouache of brown shade. Draw relief, shadows and blur them along the top edge. We emphasize the line of the beach zone with orange gouache and designate the contours of the sea waves in white. Thin strokes set the direction of the waves. Foam along the edges of the waves and crests with white gouache. With blue strokes we emphasize the shadows.
