Among tranquilizers, many neurologists and psychiatrists today prefer the Atarax drug. The drug "Atarax," the active substance of which is hydroxyzine, is the latest product of the pharmaceutical industry, is tolerated by patients much better than previous analogues. In addition, the medicine is more labile to the selection of dosages. Atarax, an instruction which is posted on many medical sites, does not give the side effects characteristic of its predecessors.
However, this does not mean at all that the medicine can be taken independently, without the appointment of a specialist. Moreover, medicine has not yet come up with drugs without side effects. After taking the tablets, lethargy, weakening of attention may occur. They are less pronounced than other psychotropic drugs, but, nevertheless, exist. Uncontrolled use of the drug, as well as improperly selected dosage, can cause negative consequences, getting rid of which will be much more difficult than from the underlying disease.
Many are inclined to believe that Atarax is a pill for many diseases that are not related to mental disorders. Pills really help with insomnia, relieve itching, have a sedative effect, and improve cognitive abilities. But ... A logical question arises: if insomnia, itching, impaired attention are not associated with mental illness, why treat them with psychotropics. Isnβt it easier to use mild sedatives or anti-allergic drugs?
So who is Atarax appointed to? The instruction says that the drug is prescribed as a histamine or anxiolytic agent for the following diseases:
- neurotic conditions associated with anxiety, anxiety, inability to relieve internal stress or stop psychomotor agitation ;
- organic lesions of the organs of the central nervous system, causing increased excitability;
- to stop vomiting and relieve anxiety before surgery and in the postoperative period;
- in chronic alcoholism, especially in the stage of withdrawal, accompanied by excessive excitability;
- in the treatment of itching caused by neurological or mental causes.
But what about the lethargy, dry mouth, nausea, or other undesirable effects that Atarax can provoke? The instruction warns that with a correctly selected dosage, such consequences are almost imperceptible. On the other hand, it is worth resolving the question of which is better: some absent-mindedness and drowsiness or inappropriate behavior, which can be dangerous both for the patient himself and for his environment? The answer, you see, is obvious.
It is worth paying attention to contraindications, which, like any other medicine, Atarax has. The instruction clearly warns that pregnant women, as well as people whose work requires an increased concentration, for example, drivers, are not recommended to take the drug.
"Atarax" categorically can not be combined with alcohol: it is deadly. It is not recommended for patients with kidney or liver problems, some other categories of people. In addition, the active substance of the tablets is incompatible with certain types of drugs.
An overdose threatens with loss of consciousness or confusion, instability in the legs, and vomiting.
That is why only a specialist can prescribe a medicine and its dosage. Properly selected for each case, it makes the Atarax drug an excellent medication that can return a person to a normal normal life. The appointment of this tranquilizer in other cases not specified by the instruction is unjustified.
