The film “And Trees Are Growing on the Stones” is among the undoubtedly successful works. The actors who starred in it later had a different creative fate. About the career and fate of some of them will be described below, but for now it’s worth saying a few words about the plot of the picture itself.

Kuksha and the Vikings

9th century AD. The Vikings capture the Ilmen Slovenian - Kuksha. Their leader Thorir decides to take the prisoner with him, despite Sigurd’s resistance. During a fight with hevdings, Kuksha behaves like a hero. Thorir adopts the brave man and calls him Einar the Happy. In one of the Viking villages, Kuksha falls in love with Sigurd’s bride - Signu. The girl’s mother and brother agree to give the beauty to him as a wife. They go to great lengths to make Sigurd a criminal. Thorir leaves with the squad. Kuksha does not want to leave his associates. Signy's brother - Herald - holds Einar by force. However, the girl and slave Levius help him escape. Herald is furious. He is killing Levius. He, dying, reveals his origin to Torira and says where to find Kuksha. Sigurd abducts Signy, but the girl dies, pushing against his sword. Herald finds them both. Kuksha meets Torir and they set sail.

1985 was marked by the beginning of Perestroika. Partly this caused interest in the picture, which under different names was shown in Norway, Germany, Finland, USA, Spain and Poland.

• Signu - Petronella Barker, for whom participation in the film was a film debut.
• Torir - Tour Stokke - one of the most famous actors in Norway, who is the champion in the number of roles played in the Radio Theater.
• Sigurd - Turgeyr Fonnlid.
• Harald - John Andersen.
• Thura - Lise Fjelstad, who in 1991 was awarded the highest award of filmmakers of Norway.
• Guttorm - Per Sunderland - one of the most famous and honored Norwegian actors. He was awarded the Order of St. Tin of the first degree by the king.

Alexander Timoshkin

After the release of the film “And Trees Grow on the Stones”, the actors who played the main roles in it, including young ones, became recognizable not only in our country, but also abroad.

Most of the fame, of course, went to the lead actor. The young actor Alexander Timoshkin by that time had already starred in the films “My father had three sons” and “Mother Mary”. The role of Kuksha brought him the Silver Rook Prize at the fifth Norwegian National Film Festival. In subsequent years, he starred in about three dozen films, and in 1999 he was awarded the title "Honored Artist of Belarus".

Victor Shulgin

This famous Soviet artist became one of the few domestic actors who played a Viking in this picture. He got the role of Tin. He is known for his roles in such famous films as “Shadows disappear at noon”, “Youth of Peter”, “Eternal Call” and others. In 1992, Shulgin was awarded the title “Honored Artist of the Russian Federation”.

Like other actors in the film “And trees grow on stones,” he later admitted that he was interested in acting in such an extraordinary international project that talked about the relationship between Slavs and Vikings in the early Middle Ages.

Mikhail Gluzsky

This beloved by many Soviet actor got the most mysterious role in the film "And the trees grow on the stones." Actors of this level rarely agree to episodic roles. However, the image of Levius, or Bald, performed by Mikhail Gluzsky became one of the most memorable in the picture.

Valentina Titova

In the film, the actress got the role of Kuksha's mother. Valentina Titova, who is still considered one of the most beautiful women in Soviet and Russian cinema, coped with her, as always, brilliantly. The image of a Slavic woman created by her is as impeccable as those remembered by the audience in the films “Shield and Sword”, “Days of the Turbins”. Of the last roles of Titova, one can note the paintings "To Love in Russian" and "Unexpected Joy."
