Effective antispasmodic agent "Papaverine hydrochloride"

The drug "Papaverine hydrochloride" is classified as myotropic drugs with strong antispasmodic effect. For many decades, it has been used to reduce the tone and relax vessels and smooth muscles of almost all internal organs. It has a pronounced hypotensive effect. This drug dilates the arteries, helps increase blood flow, in particular, cerebral. This drug in high doses dramatically reduces the excitability of the musculature of the heart, and also helps to slow down intracardiac conduction. Its effect on the central nervous system is slightly pronounced, although at elevated dosages it has some sedative effect.

Papaverine hydrochloride is produced in the following dosage forms:

- tablets for adults at 0.04 g (10 pcs.);

- children's tablets of 0.01 g (10 pcs.);

- 2% solution for injection (10 ampoules each);

- rectal suppositories of 20 mg (10 pcs.).

Indications for use are conditions such as spasms of smooth muscles of the peritoneal organs with cholecystitis, renal colic; spastic colitis; endarteritis; bronchospasm; pylorospasm; spasms of blood vessels located in the brain. In the treatment of angina papaverine hydrochloride is used for complex therapy with other drugs.

Contraindications to the use of this drug are:

hypersensitivity, impaired liver function, glaucoma, children's age (up to 0.5 years). In old age, you can not take this drug, since there is a risk of hyperthermia.

Means "Papaverine hydrochloride": instructions for use

Taking the drug is 3-4 p. per day. The dosage for a single dose of tablets varies depending on the age of the patient. Adults are prescribed a single dose of 40-60 mg tablets. Children 0.5-2 g. - 5 mg each, 3-4 g. - 5-10 mg, 5-6 l. -10 mg, 7-9 liters. - 10-15 mg, 10-14 liters. - 15-20mg.

The injection solution is administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously. Injections do 2-4 p. 1-2 ml per day. Intravenously, the drug is administered very slowly at 20 mg, after adding 10-20 ml of sodium chloride to it (0.9% solution). This procedure is best performed under the supervision of a physician. For patients aged, a single initial dose should be no higher than 10 mg. Often, this drug is administered parenterally in combination with various spasmolytic and analgesic drugs, such as Promedol.

Suppositories with papaverine are administered rectally, 2-3 r. 20-40 mg per day.

The drug "Papaverine hydrochloride" can cause side effects such as drowsiness, allergic reactions, ventricular extrasystole, increased activity of liver transaminases, lowering blood pressure, constipation, eosinophilia.

With an overdose of the drug, symptoms such as general weakness, diplopia, and increased drowsiness are noted.

When using this medication, special instructions should be observed that recommend careful use of the drug for weakened and elderly patients; people with traumatic brain injuries, hypothyroidism, impaired adrenal, kidney and liver function; with tachycardia; shock conditions.

The drug "Papaverine hydrochloride" during pregnancy and during feeding is better not to use, since its effectiveness and safety in such periods has not been established.

During therapy, alcohol is prohibited. Smoking during treatment significantly reduces the effectiveness of the drug. With the simultaneous administration of Papaverine and Dopegit, the effect of the first is significantly reduced.

Papaverine hydrochloride is included in several combined antispasmodics in combination with other medicinal substances:

- the drug "Lupaverine" - with phenobarbital;

- the drug "Pafillin" - with platyphylline hydrotate;

- the drug "Kellatrin" - with kellin and atropine sulfate ;

- the drug "Kellyverin" - with kellin;

- the drug "Nikoverin" - with nicotinic acid.
