Neurodermatitis: treatment and diagnosis

Neurodermatitis is a neurogenic allergic disease that is characterized by mild or severe changes in the skin (rashes, darkening, coarsening, etc.) and itching. For the first time the term "neurodermatitis" began to be used in 1891. They called skin scratching due to itching. Later, all rashes on the skin, accompanied by itching and having a chronic nature with seasonal exacerbations, began to be called "neurodermatitis." Their treatment in many cases is complicated by the fact that it is not always possible to establish the exact cause of this disease. Sometimes they can arise for no reason, and the patient simply has nothing to answer to the doctor’s questions. However, unlike children, in whom the disease mainly arises due to a genetic predisposition or an allergy to a product, in adults the main cause is most often an emotional state, i.e. itching that has arisen on a nervous basis - this is neurodermatitis.

Treatment (a photo of the affected skin before it can be seen above) should therefore be carried out under the supervision of not only a dermatologist, but also a neuropathologist.

Symptoms of neurodermatitis:

  • severe itching that occurs long before the rash;
  • rash;
  • small nodules on the skin;
  • crusts and scales at the site of itching;
  • cyanosis or darkening of the skin;
  • general malaise and apathy;
  • inflammation of the lymph nodes (rarely), etc.

What can cause neurodermatitis? Treatment and diagnosis

There are many reasons for this disease. Here is some of them:

  1. A predisposition to allergies at the genetic level.
  2. Unstable state of mind, negative emotions.
  3. Physical and mental strain.
  4. Violation of the regime of the day.
  5. Digestive tract diseases.
  6. Inadequate nutrition.
  7. Intoxication.
  8. The presence of pets in the house.
  9. Contact with food for aquarium fish.

  11. Incompatibility with certain cosmetics.
  12. Pollen of flowering plants.
  13. Some products: citruses, chocolate, nuts, honey, etc.

Neurodermatitis, the treatment of which was started immediately after the detection of symptoms and diagnosis, are more likely to cure. In order to completely cure, or at least for a long time to alleviate the symptoms of this disease, it is necessary to comply with the following recommendations of dermatologists and neuropathologists:

  1. Observe sleep and food intake.
  2. Adhere to a diet (exclude salty, spicy, fatty, citrus, sweet and alcohol).
  3. Take antihistamines.
  4. Undergo physiotherapeutic procedures.
  5. Use antipruritic creams and ointments, etc.

In especially difficult situations, hormone therapy is indicated.

There are people who trust traditional medicine more, because it uses only natural ingredients. The most common remedies for the treatment of neurodermatitis are burdock, nettle, celandine, etc. Calendula is recommended to be prepared from these plants and compresses should be made from it before bedtime until completely dry. For many people who have been tortured by neurodermatitis, treatment with folk remedies is a real find, because in a very short time you can get rid of excruciating itching, as well as unaesthetic rashes.
