The famous American director David Fincher was born on August 28, 1962 in Denver, Colorado. As a child, David was carried away by cinema, spent days at a nearby cinema and did not miss a single movie. And when at the age of eight he watched the Western “Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid”, he was impressed by what was happening on the movie screen for a long time.
Father, noticing his son’s hobby, gave him an 8-mm movie camera so that the child could realize his craving for creativity. David quickly mastered the simple machine and began to shoot his own films. The first children's films of David Fincher were liked by adults, and some even predicted a great future for him.
Stage-hand
As soon as Fincher was 18 years old, he immediately got a job at a film studio located nearby to be closer to cinema. David was accepted as a working stage, his duties included simple steps to install and dismantle shooting equipment and other equipment. The diligent young man soon became an indispensable participant in the entire creative process on the set.
When the movie Star Wars, directed by George Lucas, was released in 1980, it was a shock to David. He watched and watched one episode after another and in the end decided to meet the director at all costs. To this end, Fincher got a job at a special effects factory owned by Lucas, and thus managed to take an indirect part in the production of the films Indiana Jones and Return of the Jedi.
Commercials
David's creative nature required activity, he wanted to somehow realize himself in the cinema. In 1982, the future director found himself in the production of short films of an advertising nature. His innate abilities for filmmaking were fully manifested precisely in the period when he received the first order for a commercial, and then several more. David Fincher's promotional films quickly became popular, there were more applications.
The projects of the young director were attracted by the novelty of the solutions, good plot content and professionalism. An important role was played by the deadlines for the execution of orders: they were ultrashort. David Fincher instantly gained popularity as a talented director of short films; large companies such as Revlon, Nike, Levys, Coca-Cola began to line up for him.
Two years later, David reoriented his work, getting a job at the Films Propaganda studio, where he created music videos for the most famous pop music performers. The first clients of Fincher were the legendary Rolling Stones and Aerosmith groups, then George Michael turned to him. And when Madonna visited his studio with a request to create a double clip for the songs of Bad Girl and Vogue, the young clip maker felt really in demand.
Film debut
However, the production of music videos did not fully meet David's creative plans, he wanted to work in a big movie. But his debut in cinema took place only in 1992, when Fincher was made an offer to become the director of the film "Alien-3" - a continuation of "Alien" Ridley Scott and "Aliens" James Cameron.
The debut did not take place fully, since the director had disagreements with the management of the 20th Century Fox studio, where the picture was shot. Having filmed part of the material, Fincher left the set. The film was finished, but it was not successful and could hardly avoid a box office failure.
Triumph
The finest hour of director David Fincher came in 1995, when he received an invitation to take a director's chair on the set of a psychological thriller called The Seven. The thirty-three-year-old director made the film from beginning to end. The picture was a triumph, unconditional and complete, the box office more than ten times the budget. And this despite the fact that Fincher did not bother with a happy end, without which no American western or detective can do. There was simply no happy ending, but there was an excellent directorial work. Many of David Fincher’s films are built on a similar pattern: the director does not seek to embellish the finale of the movie. Nevertheless, the degree of reliability in his works is very high.
