Almost 2000 thousand kilometers east of Moscow lies the ancient Russian city of Kurgan. Until 1738, the settlement was called Tsarevo Gorodishche, until 1782 - Kurgan Settlement, in 1782 Empress Catherine II assigned the settlement the status of a city and named it Kurgan. Since then, the city has been actively developing not only in the scientific and industrial direction, but also in the cultural direction. Among the cultural objects, a significant place is occupied by the Kurgan Drama Theater, which will be described in detail in the article.
History: how it all began
The question of opening a theater in Kurgan arose in 1943 at a meeting of the local executive committee. The decision was made and approved by the higher authorities, since then May 22, 1943 is considered the official birth date of the Kurgan Drama Theater.
At first it was a branch of the Shadrinsky Theater. The team played in the theater on the stage in the city of Shadrin in the winter, and in the summer, on the open air in their native village. In 1944, a building with a stage was attached to the building of the former Kurgan Gymnasium, and the actors were finally able to find a home. The first performance staged here was Griboedov's comedy "Woe from Wit." In 1953, the Kurgan Drama Theater changed its location: the troupe moved to the renovated building of the former People’s House, where it remains to this day.
Our days
The theater is located in the city center in a very beautiful building, which in itself is a landmark and a real decoration of the Mound. Massive columns support the facade, together with stucco molding and a large number of windows, they give the building a solemn and monumental look. The theater can simultaneously accommodate more than 500 spectators. In addition to the modern tiered ground, an amphitheater, balconies and lodges are equipped here, there is an excellent buffet.
Each season becomes an event for local theatergoers. The hall is always full: the Kurgan Drama Theater is clearly not deprived of the love of the public. Also, this institution holds theme nights and meetings with famous personalities, participates in contests, tours around Russia.
Commercial component
Modern realities require flexibility and the ability to survive. The Kurgan Drama Theater also learned this. For an additional payment, he offers the following services:
- reservation of a table in the buffet;
- banquets and parties. For rent is a beautifully decorated small hall with a capacity of 150 people;
- renting a theater hall directly for large-scale events: conferences, corporate meetings on a grand scale;
- rent a noble blue hall for special occasions.
Of course, the need and desire to earn became the reason for such a business approach to the temple of Melpomene. However, there is often no place for art near business.

Each season pleases the audience with new bright productions of the Kurgan Drama Theater. Actors here work not just professional, but completely surrendering to their work, many of them have titles and regalia.

The repertoire of the theater is simply huge. Only for the last, 73rd season, 264 spectals and 9 premieres were played here! The following productions became legendary:
- "Ermak" (1963) - a spectacular performance that amazes with its scope and power;
- “Truth and Falsehood” (1965) is another epic production;
- "Dowry" (1969);
- Tartuffe (1973);
- The Three-Penny Opera (1975);
- Windsor Mockers (1991);
- and others.
In 1993, the musical was first staged here, since then such practice has become regular.

The average ticket price ranges from 150 to 450 rubles, sometimes it rises to 1000-1500 rubles. The price depends on the duration of the performance, its technical complexity, the location in the hall (stalls or balcony), and age requirements.
