What is a remix? Detailed analysis

The article talks about what a remix is, why it is needed, how it differs from the original, and who creates remixes.

Music

The first musical instruments found by archaeologists are hundreds of thousands of years old. Perhaps they were before, but the very first copies simply did not survive. This figure seems incredible, but it is. Our primitive ancestors played simple flutes that were made from animal bones, and the location of their holes suggests that they were just musical instruments.

Much later, with the advent of a more or less developed society, music still remained an important part of culture. Wandering poets and musicians were especially valued, because in those days there was simply no media, and news, songs and poems were passed from mouth to mouth. Probably, it was then that the first remixes arose in the modern sense of the word. For example, the lyrics of some songs could vary greatly depending on the region, but retained a common musical motive. So what is a remix? Why is it created and by whom? Weโ€™ll talk about this.

Definition

what is a remix

First, let's deal with terminology. This word comes from the English phrase "Re-mix". Remixes are versions of songs or other sound works that were recorded later than the original and with strong or slight differences. They appear, as a rule, in a more modern version of the arrangement (if we are talking about classics or just old songs), or they are created by superimposing and adding some additional effects, sounds or melodies. Also, remixes often change the tone, tempo and location of parts of the original song. So now we know what a remix is.

Reason for occurrence

Unlike cultural or other differences, due to which there was a remaking of songs in antiquity, modern remixes are not so simple. It began in the second half of the 20th century and is closely related to the development of sound recording equipment and the digitization of old storage media, such as records. Because of this, a whole direction arose that was engaged in rewriting old music and, through technology, improving the overall sound, correcting defects in the original recording, etc.

But over time, the remixes of the songs turned into a separate trend, which creative people, amateurs or copyright holders began to engage in in order to change the original music in the ways indicated above. The reason for this action is very simple - creative people began to express themselves in a similar way, and copyright holders and singers got the opportunity to sell the same albums several times.

Demand

remixes of songs

Mostly remixes are made from songs and other compositions of pop culture. For example, often composers and copyright holders pre-release special longer and more energetic versions of their songs that are suitable for clubs and discos.

Russian remixes

If we talk about such a phenomenon in our musical culture, then one of the first who began to make remixes was the Mirage group. In the period from 1987 to 1988, they released two studio albums, which already in 1994 were processed according to all the rules of the remix - the overall sound, the speed of some tracks were changed, the quality was improved, sound effects were superimposed and so on. This venture was successful, although, frankly, the new album was not much different from the old ones, but at that time such a decision and processing were unusual.

Manufacture

Russian remixes

Remixes are made by different people. These are DJs who need to change tracks so that they sound more โ€œclubโ€, and copyright holders, and musicians, and just amateurs. Moreover, with the mass distribution of computers and special programs, anyone can do this, itโ€™s a simple matter. So we sorted out the question of what a remix is.
