Many moviegoers today claim with confidence: their favorite character is Tyrion Lannister. The actor, who played the wise dwarf in the large-scale fantasy epic “Game of Thrones”, became famous thanks to this very role.
Peter Dinklage was born in 1969 in Morristown, New Jersey. In 1991, he moved to New York to work in the city theater. Four years later, he first appeared in the cinema - it was the film "Life in Oblivion." The following motion picture brought him some fame and approval of critics: in 2003, the actor starred in the film "Station Warden". Even today, critics have nothing to complain about, because Peter received two Emmy Awards for his stunning game on the television series Game of Thrones: in 2011 and 2015.
early years
How did the future Tyrion Lannister begin? Actor Peter Dinklage from the very beginning of his career had an extraordinary ability to attract the viewer's eyes to his images on the screen. He first discovered a taste for playing on stage in his native city of Morristown.
Having been born to completely normal parents, Dinklage soon found out about his diagnosis. Achondroplasia, or congenital chondrodystrophy, is a genetic disorder that affects bone growth. In people with this form of dwarfism, the heads and torsos reach quite normal sizes, and the limbs remain underdeveloped. Currently, like his character Tirion Lannister, the actor resigned himself to his fate, but in his teens he had a hard time. Peter discovered that in order to survive in a world where people like you are one in a million, you just need to have a sense of humor.
For the first time, Dinklage felt a surge of inspiration on the stage in the fifth grade of the school, when children staged a play based on the book Velvet Rabbit. Peter was entrusted with the main role, and he was delighted with the reaction of the audience. Then the boy entered the Catholic school of Delbarton and began to develop his undeniable talent, remaining after school and learning new roles in the drama circle.
In college, the future Tyrion Lannister - an actor whose gift was now recognized by everyone - played in a variety of amateur productions. After graduating in 1991, he moved to New York, where there were much more career opportunities.
First significant success
Interestingly, for the first time, critics favorably accepted Dinklage's acting when he starred in Tom McCarthy’s independent film project, The Station Warden (2003). In this film, he played the role of a lone, train-crazed man who inherited an old depot. The character of Peter makes a friend - a talkative seller from a restaurant car, and then falls in love with an artist leading a reclusive lifestyle and suffering after losing a child and breaking up with her husband. The film was very warmly received at the Sundance Film Festival - it was there that the Miramax Studio bought the picture.
"Game of Thrones"
Tyrion Lannister (the actor, by the way, admits that he has many similarities with his character) - a dwarf of noble origin, the so-called "good bad guy." He survives thanks to his intelligence and wisdom and steadfastly endures all the hardships in a cruel world torn to pieces by dynasties that crave power over the kingdoms of Westeros. The fantasy TV epic Game of Thrones, the first season of which was released in 2011, is based on George Martin's series of songs "A Song of Ice and Fire." According to the writer, he drew inspiration for a multi-volume story from the chronicles of the infamous Rose War, which at one time greatly weakened medieval England.
Personal life
The popular actor who played Tyrion Lannister is married to Eric Schmidt. His wife works as a theater director. The couple have a daughter Zelig Dinklage, the girl is already four years old.
