Vladimir Gubarev - writer, playwright, journalist

The genre of science fiction is one of the most popular genres of literature, cinema and visual art, whose fans can be found anywhere in the world. There are many famous writers, directors, screenwriters, artists and other figures who have worked in this genre. One of the writers who have contributed to this artistic direction is Vladimir Stepanovich Gubarev.

The early years and the beginning of literary activity

The future writer was born on August 26, 1938 in the USSR, and more precisely - in the Union Republic of Belarus in an ordinary family. Father Stepan Gubarev was a military leader. Not much is known about Vladimir Stepanovich’s childhood. It probably went the same way as most Soviet children did at that time.

Gubarev began to take an interest in literature two years after graduating - the writer graduated from the Kuibyshev Moscow Civil Engineering Institute (in 1993 the institution was renamed Kuibyshev Moscow State University ). The first book of Vladimir Gubarev, entitled “The Roads of the Universe,” was published in 1962, and from that moment the literary career of a graduate of an engineering institute began.

Creativity: Gubarev as a writer and playwright

The authorship of Vladimir Stepanovich owns several fiction, as well as many journalistic essays, popular science works and biographical novels. His science fiction stories were often published in the journal If If. Vladimir Gubarev in his works highlighted such problems as scientific progress, mankind's exploration of outer space, and the enormous responsibility of scientists to other people.

Since 1966, the writer co-authored with other science fiction writers and artist Pavel Bunin under the common pseudonym Pavel Bagryak. From 1979 to 1991, Vladimir Gubarev was a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR.

In 1985, one of the novels “The Legend of Aliens” was filmed. The film was called "The Alien Ship."

In addition, Gubarev created 6 plays, each of which was repeatedly staged both in the writer’s homeland and abroad.

Journalism

For a long time Vladimir Gubarev was a journalist for newspapers such as Pravda and Komsomolskaya Pravda. As in fiction, in his articles he considered the problems of science and space exploration, as well as geology, mineral resources, mining. Together with scientists, Gubarev made various expeditions and wrote articles based on his observations.

When the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant occurred in April 26, 1986, he was one of the first journalists to be at the scene of the disaster. Amazed by what he saw, Vladimir Gubarev wrote one of his best plays under the title “Sarcophagus”. In the future, it was very popular with viewers and was delivered in more than 50 countries of the world. In the UK, the Sarcophagus even received the Laurence Olivier Theater Award.

In 1988, the writer left the newspaper Pravda after a resonance arising from his article, The Vatican Gardens. In the atheistic Soviet Union, newspaper editors refused to publish material that described the history of the Catholic Church. Despite the fact that in the end the article was published thanks to the instructions of Gorbachev, Vladimir Gubarev did not return to the newspaper.

Prizes and awards

In 1974, Gubarev received the Lenin Komsomol Prize for promoting science and numerous publications on space exploration by the Soviet Union.

In 1978, Gubarev became the laureate of the USSR State Prize for creating the script for the film series “Our Biography”.

The writer also has two orders of the Badge of Honor and the Order of Gagarin, received in 2005.
