Why does the ear flow or what is otitis media

If your ear is leaking, you should consult a specialist as soon as possible. The fact is that this kind of symptom is a sign of a serious disease called otitis media. It is a chronic or acute inflammation of any part of the ear. Depending on this, otitis may be external, secondary or internal. In general, the cause of this disease is most often a complication of any respiratory disease. For example, sinusitis, laryngitis, tonsillitis, tracheitis or pharyngitis. Otitis can develop if a large amount of fluid enters the ear (when it does not spill out, but stagnates). Quite often, people who clean their ears with simple pointed objects injure the ear canal and eardrum, and also infect themselves. Against this background, otitis media may develop in the future. An ordinary allergy also sometimes causes this ailment.

As already mentioned above, otitis media can be internal, external and secondary. Outside is characteristic for people who very often come in contact with water. In addition, the causes of this type of disease are just mechanical damage to the inner part of the ear, for example, when cleaning.

If we talk about otitis media, then in most cases it is caused by viruses or bacteria, microbial associations or some fungi. Most often, otitis media is provoked by various acute respiratory viral infections, as well as the influenza virus. You can add pneumococcus and a rod called hemophilic to this list. According to statistics, there is currently a sharp increase in the number of cases of otitis media of the fungal type. Otitis media often develops against a background of diseases of the nasopharynx or paranasal sinuses, which, in turn, contribute to swelling of the mucous membrane and the development of obstruction of the Eustachian tubes. As a result, microbes soon enough fall into the middle ear. Purulent otitis media begins. Symptoms of this disease are pain in the ears, purulent discharge from the ear, headache, the temperature often rises (sometimes up to 39 Β° C and above). If the ear is leaking, you should definitely contact your specialist. It must be borne in mind that if there is any discharge from the ear canal, it is strictly forbidden to instill drugs containing alcohol (before consulting a doctor) - this can lead to deafness! In cases when fluid flows from the ear, it is often necessary to carry out a long and serious treatment. In addition to all this, it should be noted that similar symptoms may appear after surgery in the nasal cavity or, for example, the nasopharynx.

In general, experts consider the symptoms of otitis media as pain in the ears, their stuffiness and noise in the organs of hearing, and an increase in body temperature. All this can be accompanied by a headache and purulent discharge from a sore ear. It is in such situations that people say that the patient’s ear is leaking.

Two types of otitis media have been described above. It's time to talk about inflammation of the inner ear. It may be spilled or, for example, limited. In some cases, inflammation extends even to the eardrum, which is typical most often for the elderly. If a person has pain in the ear, which quite often gives into the eye, teeth, or neck, there is a chance that he will develop internal otitis media. In such a situation, hearing may be impaired and even completely lost. With internal otitis media, the ear sometimes flows. However, most often, fluid accumulates in the internal parts of the body. This is a very serious condition that threatens with serious complications.

If you are leaking from your ear, try to see a doctor as soon as possible. Do not carry out any treatment yourself. Also, do not use folk recipes. Otitis can only be cured with drugs. This is not only ear drops, it can also be tablets (syrups, drops, and sometimes injections), for example, antibiotics, vasoconstrictors and anti-allergic drugs. In any case, only a specialist can prescribe the appropriate treatment after the examination.
