What is thrombophlebitis? Inflammatory vein disease and blockage of a blood clot. Most often on the lower extremities. Thrombophlebitis can occur as a serious complication after transferring a serious infectious disease, but more often in connection with the transition of the inflammatory process from an existing wound to the vein wall. In women, it forms after childbirth. Increased blood coagulation, a change in the state of the vein wall, and a slowed blood flow through the vessels are the processes that can provoke the appearance and development of thrombophlebitis.
This is a serious disease that requires timely treatment. Thrombophlebitis is dangerous for complications, especially thrombophlebitis of the face and pelvic veins. In the first case, the inflammatory process can affect the veins of the brain, and in the second, it can strike the liver.
Thrombophlebitis can be chronic and acute. Depending on the depth of the affected veins, superficial and deep thrombophlebitis. Treatment is always prescribed by a doctor and one must strictly adhere to his recommendations.
The most dangerous and actively occurring disease is acute thrombophlebitis. As a rule, it starts suddenly, develops in a few hours. A sick person experiences acute pain along the vein, the limb swells, and his health sharply worsens.
Body temperature rises to 39 degrees, and sometimes even higher, the patient is shivering. Then the thrill can subside - go into a chronic form. Almost always, the vein remains clogged, and this leads to difficulty in the outflow of blood from the affected limb, edema develops and often the appearance of expansion of the veins.
When the first signs of acute thrombophlebitis appear, the patient should be urgently examined by a doctor.
In some cases, the patient may be hospitalized. With a timely visit to the doctor and the treatment, it is possible to localize the inflammation in a few days. If the disease is not treated (or self-medicated) or consult a doctor late, then in almost ninety-seven cases out of a hundred, thrombophlebitis takes a chronic form.
A prolonged, sluggish, with periodic exacerbations disease is chronic thrombophlebitis, the treatment of which must also be carried out as prescribed and under the supervision of a doctor. We urge you again and again - do not self-medicate! Do not take medications prescribed by your doctor's neighbor. This can lead to irreparable consequences.
Migratory thrombophlebitis can be attributed to special forms of this insidious disease. Treatment for this form of the disease should be started as soon as possible. The disease begins with the appearance of painful nodules on the superficial veins of one limb, then suddenly appears on the second. The appearance of nodules may be accompanied by an increase in body temperature. If these signs appear, the patient must be put to bed, the limb laid on a small roller and immediately call a doctor. Do not take any action before the doctors arrive. Do not massage your foot! Do not rub any ointments. This can cause a blood clot to break off!
In chronic thrombophlebitis, constant wearing of elastic stockings or the use of an elastic bandage, a visit to exercise therapy is recommended. If you are diagnosed with thrombophlebitis, treatment at the resort is allowed for at least six months after the acute attack has been relieved.
