In the fairy tale âKingdom of Crooked Mirrorsâ, the actors tell the young audience a fascinating story of two girls who have fallen into a world where âeverything is the other way aroundâ. In this picture, Alexander Row starred many stars of Soviet cinema. Who can be seen on the screens when watching a movie?
Filmmakers
In the film âKingdom of Crooked Mirrorsâ, the actors were selected under the close supervision of the director of the fairy tale - Alexander Rowe.
Alexander Rowe is a magician who presented many good films to Soviet children: âFrostâ, âEvenings on a Farm near Dikankaâ, and âMarya Skalnitsaâ. The director shot exclusively fairy tales and did it so well that even adult people watched his creations with pleasure.
The script for the âKingdom of Crooked Mirrorsâ was written by Vitaly Gubarev and Lev Arkadyev. Gubarev at one time also worked on an adaptation of the fairy tale "In the Far Away Kingdom." Arkadyev was not only a screenwriter, but also a professional writer and journalist.
The music for the tale was written by Arkady Filippenko, who by then already had experience working with Rowe during the production of the tale âEvenings on a Farm Near Dikankaâ.
Filming took place in the Crimea near Yalta.
Short story
In the film âKingdom of Crooked Mirrorsâ, the actors tell the story of the girl Olya, who, by the will of fate, falls into the fabulous Kingdom of Crooked Mirrors and meets her twin Yalo. That fully reflects not only the appearance of Olya, but also her character. Soon, the girl learns that everything in this new world seems to be passed through a crooked mirror: common nouns, concepts of justice, honor and friendship.
Olya and Yalo decide to deal with the seen injustice. They are trying to overthrow the power and greedy ministers, and most importantly, the stupid king of the kingdom - Yagupop of the 77th. The ministers of Yagupop are deceiving not only their subordinates and citizens subject to them, but also the king himself. In the struggle for power, they are ready to do a lot. Therefore, Ole and Yalo is not difficult to cope with them: villains die in a fierce struggle with each other for power. Olya, however, says goodbye to Yalo and returns home in complete triumph.
Judging by the reviews, the picture completely captures the attention of young viewers, watching the interesting adventures of the heroes, the guys learn good and justice.
"Kingdom of Crooked Mirrors": actors. Yukins twins
The role of Olya and her copies of Yalo are performed by real twin sisters.
Olga Yukina, accordingly, played Olya, a restless third-grader girl who had lost her hands, did not listen to her grandmother at all and was picky a lot. When she gets into the Kingdom of crooked mirrors, she meets there like two drops of water like a Yalo.
At first glance, Yalo, played by Tatyana Yukina, is exactly the same as Olya. But when crucial moments come, Yalo shows himself not from the best side and shows Olya what she is unbearable in ordinary life. Nevertheless, the main characters are kind and selfless: they save the mirrorman Gourde, crack down on the villains and successfully return home.
After filming in a fairy tale, Olga Yukina and her sister appeared one more time in an episode of the fairy tale âFrostâ. On this their film career ended.
Tatyana Yukina and her twin, Olga, have worked almost their entire lives at Intourist. Unfortunately, not one of the girls entered the acting department.
Tatyana Barysheva in the role of grandmother
The role of the kind and caring grandmother of the girl Oli was played by T. Barysheva.
Tatyana Barysheva was almost at the origins of Soviet cinema - her first appearance in the film dates from 1925. But the actress can hardly boast of the main roles. Baryshev can safely be called the queen of the episode.
The first more or less noticeable role of the artist was the role of the dentist in the comedy âFoundlingâ. The film was shot in 1939 by Tatyana Lukashevich and actually became a picture of one actress - the brilliant Faina Ranevskaya. Until now, the phrase of her heroine is used in everyday life: "Mulia, do not make me nervous!"
Barysheva can also be seen in the children's film âFirst Graderâ, where she again plays the grandmother of the main character, and in the comedy âWelcome, or No Trespassing.â
A. Stapran as Gourde
Andrei Stapran in the tale of Alexander Row embodied on the screen the image of the brave and courageous Gourde (which in translation into "human" language means "friend"). Gourde is a mirror man who refused to make false curved mirrors. For this, the ministers of Yagupop of the 77th imprisoned the boy in the tower. In the finale of the tale, Ola and Yalo manage to rescue the boy.
Andrei Stapran, like the Yukins sisters, did not have an acting career. He appeared in the cinema only two times: in the Korolesta of crooked mirrors and in Morozko.
After school, the young man decided to enter the directing department of VGIK, which he succeeded. Subsequently, Stapran made a number of popular science and documentary films.
A. Kubatsky as Yagupop of the 77th
A special charm was possessed by the character of Yagupop 77th performed by Anatoly Kubatsky. The actor managed to accurately convey the idle talk and pomp of his character that itâs simply impossible not to laugh at his stupidity.
Kubatsky, like Baryshev, was an actor of the old school. He began his film career in 1928 and was not spoiled by the main roles. But Anatoly did not complain and very successfully continued to act in episodes.
Most often, he can be seen in the tales of Alexander Rowe: in âThe New Adventures of Puss in Bootsâ he plays King Unulio, in the âMary the Artisanâ of Vodokrut XIII, in âEvenings on a Farm near Dikankaâ by Kuma Panas, and in âMorozkoâ Kubatsky played chieftain of robbers.
But there were other pictures in the actorâs filmography: for example, in the comedy âDuenyaâ with Tatyana Vasilyeva, he played the main role of the rector Pablo, and in the drama âAnna Kareninaâ directed by Zarha, the valet Matvey.
A. Tsinman as Abage
Arkady Tsinman in the tale of Rowe appeared in the image of the nasty, green Supreme Minister Abage. As befits a toad, Abage is a slippery type who only wants to take power in the kingdom. First, he conspires with Anidag and Nushrok to overthrow Yagupop, but then tries to eliminate even his accomplices as unnecessary competitors.
Arkady Tsinman began his career in the film industry as a projectionist. A little later he graduated from the studio at the Moscow Art Theater and in 1944 began to act in films, making his debut in the military drama "Sky of Moscow". Zinman has never played a major role in his long career. But the artist often collaborated with Alexander Rowe: Arkady Mikhailovich appeared immediately in three of his tales - âBarbara Beauty, a Long Scytheâ, âFire, Water and Copper Tubesâ and âKingdom of Curved Mirrorsâ. Zinmanâs last role in the movie was an episode in the Soviet-Italian film Life is Beautiful.
A. Fight as Nushrok
The greatest difficulties in the process of filming had to face Andrei Fight, who played the role of Nushrok. At that time, the actor was about sixty years old, nevertheless, in the frame, he had to rush at full speed on a horse over rough terrain, and even fly over a horse at the end of the path. Fight dealt with the gallop on his own, but the stunt had to be performed by the stuntman.
The actor had a very colorful appearance, especially in his young years: black hair, prominent cheekbones, aquiline nose. Therefore, he often got the role of characters with negative charisma: Germans, Basmachis, robbers. It is noteworthy that the center characters began to be offered to Fight already at an advanced age: at 63, he played the Magribin in the fairy tale âAladdin's Magic Lampâ, and in 69 - Ignatius Lyakhovsky in âPrivalovskiye Millinyâ. Following was the role of master Bolotnikov in the melodrama "The Potter's Wheel", and after a few years the actor died.
Other role performers
This time it was not without the star of all Soviet fairy tales: actor Georgy Millar played three roles in the Kingdom of Curved Mirrors at once - the Most Important Ceremonies of the Master, the Dowager Queen and the Carter. Millar starred in absolutely all Rowâs fairy tales: the artist mainly played Babu Yaga, but the features of the devil, Tsar Gorokh, the royal sleeping bag of Chihir and many other characters were also in his piggy bank.
The role of the beautiful but mean Anidag went to Lydia Vertinskaya, which can also be seen in the fairy tales "Sadko", "New Adventures of the Cat in Boots" and in the drama "Don Quixote".
The role of the Bar (slave) was played by Ivan Kuznetsov, who is known for the role of Shcherbin in the film "Moscow Sky" and the role of Kondrat in the film "Army" Wagtails "."
One cannot fail to mention yet another master of the episode - Tamara Nosova. The actress brilliantly played in many Soviet films: Carnival Night, Marriage of Balzaminov, Hello, I'm Your Aunt.
Also in the frame you can see Pavel Pavlenko (âMorozkoâ), Alexander Khvylu (âEvenings on a Farm Near Dikankaâ), Valentin Bryleev (âEarthly Loveâ), Alexander Aleshin (âTreasure Islandâ), Vyacheslav Gostinsky (âTicket-Free Passengerâ ) and Vera Altai ("Mary the Artisan").
