Diarrhea in infants

Diarrhea in infants is a very common occurrence, delivering many unpleasant minutes to both the parents of the baby, and, in fact, to the child. It can occur in the first days of a baby’s life and last several months.

However, if the baby is breast-fed, and his development complies with the standards, you should not worry, because this is a physiological phenomenon. Such a chair may not cause the baby any inconvenience and occur after each feeding. It is usually medium liquid, yellow in color (may be slightly altered), but sometimes there is a little bit of mucus impurity. And if the child is cheerful and healthy, then nothing needs to be done, everything will work out by itself.

However, diarrhea in infants can also indicate problems in their body, so you need to look at the baby and, if necessary, conduct treatment.

Regardless of the causes of diarrhea, all babies carry it equally hard. Diarrhea in infants can be the result of overfeeding, when the mother gives the breast too often (as an option, fatty or not fresh cow's milk for feeding). If the reason is precisely this, the baby's stool can be up to 20 times a day. Feces are yellowish in color with white slices of undigested milk, and sometimes mucus, blood and greens can be traced. The smell of feces is also changing.

Another reason can be fasting a baby. In this case, the stool is green , quite liquid (similar to a precipitate from a decoction), and the child does not sleep well, develops, rarely urinates, is restless, and sometimes vomits.

Also, a disease, such as a cold or ear inflammation, can be the cause of diarrhea. The smaller the baby, the sharper he reacts to stool disorders. Therefore, if the child has diarrhea, it is not worth delaying treatment. If treatment is started on time, then any disorder will pass quickly and easily. In particular, if an intestinal infection is to blame, only medication can relieve it. After all, while the disease continues, the baby will also be bothered by diarrhea.

What to do if a child has diarrhea, every parent should know. Firstly, it must be remembered that a thorough treatment is indispensable here. It may be possible to cope with the disease on your own at home, but if a digestive disorder has gone into a severe degree (when there are the following symptoms - vomiting, blood in the stool or watery stool, the temperature exceeds 38 degrees), then you can not do without urgent medical help. If it is difficult to get to the doctor, then you need to know the basic rules of emergency care in case of diarrhea.

If the baby is completely breastfed, you need to continue to feed him milk. Indeed, the termination of breastfeeding can simply harm the baby, and maybe malnutrition caused diarrhea. So mother's milk in this case is the best medicine. Also, the baby can be given water, sweetened with sugar, and deprived of any food. But this is if the diarrhea is severe.

If the baby is artificial, then whole milk does not need to be fed, but it is better to dilute it halfway with water. He should be given the least food so that he can only satisfy his hunger. If solid food is already included in the baby’s diet, it must be completely excluded during treatment. If in a few days the diarrhea in infants on artificial feeding does not go away, then you need to seek help from doctors.

If the diarrhea is already strong, and the child’s well-being is getting worse, you should not feed him. It is better to drink it with boiled water or tea, give rice broth, soaking for periods of time, and immediately call a doctor. Only a physician will be able to prescribe the necessary treatment that can save the baby from diarrhea.

I would like to note that in this case you should not engage in self-medication, so that this does not lead, in the end, to any complications.

Be healthy!
