In surgery and ophthalmology, until recently, the inexpensive Mezaton preparation of Ukrainian origin was widely used. Now its deliveries to Russia are stopped. Domestic manufacturers offer analogues of Mesaton, which are mainly used in the form of drops for the nose and eyes. The choice of those in pharmacies is quite large and diverse.
About the drug "Mesaton"
So, “Mesaton": instructions for use, analogues, consider everything in order. The active substance of the drug is phenylephrine. When ingested, it narrows blood vessels, increases heart contractions, dilates the bronchi, and increases blood pressure.
It is used for collapse, shock conditions, blood loss, high blood pressure, intoxication, tachycardia. Also, the drug is used before performing operations with spinal anesthesia, in ophthalmology for dilating the pupil, and in otolaryngology for rhinitis. Available in ampoules, tablets, in the form of eye drops. Depending on the indications, the drug is administered intravenously or intramuscularly, subcutaneously, orally, topically. "Mesatone" has contraindications: atherosclerosis, hypertension, myocarditis. Use with caution in hyperthyroidism, vascular spasms, elderly people. Possible side effects are headache and nausea. Previously, this drug was actively used in domestic medicine. Now, due to its absence in Russian pharmacies, Mesaton analogues are used, mainly in the form of drops for the eyes and nose.
Phenylephrine hydrochloride ampoules
Available in the form of a white powder, for intramuscular or intravenous administration, it is diluted with water for injection. For the drug "Mesaton" analogues in ampoules are not so numerous, since it is mainly used in the form of drops in the nose or eyes, cases of its injection are rare. Indications for use: acute arterial hypotension, vascular insufficiency, shock conditions (traumatic, toxic), local anesthesia (to reduce blood flow). Injections of phenylephrine hydrochloride are prohibited for arterial hypertension, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, atherosclerosis, and cerebral artery damage. During pregnancy, the introduction of the drug is possible only in extreme cases. The same applies to lactation.
During treatment, you need to control blood pressure and heart function. There are drugs for injection, in their properties similar to "Mesaton". Analogs in ampoules have other active substances, but a similar effect on the body is ephedrine hydrochloride, adrenaline, norepinephrine.
Irifrin: Description
This is an analogue of Mesaton in Russia in terms of ophthalmology. The composition includes phenylephrine hydrochloride and auxiliary components. When it is exposed, the dilator of the pupil (dilator muscle) and the smooth muscles of the conjunctiva contract. As a result, the pupils dilate. The effect occurs within an hour, and lasts from two to seven hours, depending on the percentage of phenylephrine (2.5% or 10%). Irifrin is used for:
- diagnosis of eye diseases that require dilated pupils;
- prevention of posterior synechia (adhesions) and weakening of exudation in the iris (iridocyclitis);
- identification of possible angle-closure glaucoma;
- preoperative pupil preparation;
- the treatment of glaucomyclic crises;
- diagnosis of deep or superficial injection of the eye;
- laser operations at the bottom of the eye;
- red eye syndrome;
- allergies and colds, to relieve swelling of the mucous membranes of the eyes and nose.
Contraindications and side effects "Irifrina"
Like Mesaton, analogues have their contraindications; for Irifrin, these are:
- hypersensitivity to the components;
- glaucoma (narrow-angle, closed-angle);
- arterial hypertension;
- tachycardia;
- diabetes;
- aneurysm;
- hyperthyroidism, thyrotoxicosis;
- combined use with tricyclic antidepressants;
- antihypertensive drugs, MAO inhibitors;
- porphyria;
- violation of the integrity of the eye or outflow of tear fluid.
The following side effects of the drug may be observed:
- conjunctivitis;
- burning, irritation of the mucous membranes of the eyes, lacrimation, increased intraocular pressure, blurred vision;
- reactive miosis (typical of the elderly);
- tachycardia, arrhythmia, other disorders of the heart, arterial hypertension;
- dermatitis;
- severe disturbances in the form of collapse, myocardial infarction are rarely manifested;
- intracerebral hemorrhage.
"Vistosan"
Among the eye drops, there are other analogues of Mesaton, for example, Vistosan. Since its active ingredient is phenylephrine, the drug has the same effect when used, causing the pupil to expand. The pharmacological action is similar to "Irifrin." Half an hour after getting on the eye membrane in the moisture of the anterior chamber, parts of the pigment of the iris can be observed.
It is indicated for iridocyclitis, diagnosis of diseases, suspected glaucoma. A solution of 10% is used to dilate the pupil in preparation for surgery, laser surgery and the treatment of glaucoma-cyclical crises. With a solution of 2.5%, red eye syndrome is treated.
Contraindicated in case of allergies, glaucoma (narrow-angle or closed-angle), cardiovascular system disorders, hyperthyroidism, and liver porphyria. It is undesirable to use people of advanced age. A solution of 10% is not used for children under 12 years of age, 2.5% - with reduced body weight. It is not advisable to use during pregnancy and lactation.
Side effects of "Vistosana"
The analogues containing phenylephrine, as well as Mesaton, have similar side effects: blurred vision, irritation, burning, lacrimation, rarely reactive myosis, cardiac dysfunction (tachycardia, arrhythmia, and in rare cases, myocardial infarction).
For ophthalmoscopy, a solution of 2.5% - 1 drop is used, if necessary, a long-term effect after an hour, the procedure is repeated in the same dosage. With iridocyclitis - 1 drop 2-3 times a day of a solution of 2.5 or 10%. For the treatment of glaucoma-cyclical crises use a solution of 10% 2-3 times a day.
Neosinephrine-POS
Another ophthalmic analogue of Mesaton in Russia is Neosinephrine-POS. The active ingredient is phenylephrine hydrochloride. Available in the form of 5% and 10% eye drop solutions. For the diagnosis of diseases, the used dose of the drug is 1 drop of 5% solution, after an hour, repetition is allowed for a longer effect. If the pupil is not dilated enough, 10% solution is allowed.
In case of an overdose, nervousness, sweating, dizziness, tachycardia, vomiting, and anxiety may occur. Pharmacological properties are the same as for analogues containing phenidephrine.
Adrianol
The Russian analogue of Mesaton in the treatment of the common cold is Adrianol. Release form - nasal drops with plastic dropper bottles. The active ingredients are tramazoline hydrochloride and phenylephrine hydrochloride. It has a vasoconstrictive and decongestant effect on the nasal mucosa when applied topically. As a result, nasal breathing is facilitated, pressure in the middle ear and sinuses is reduced. Due to its viscous consistency, it has a long action. It is indicated for use in acute and chronic rhinitis, sinusitis, and also as an adjunct in the preparation of operations and diagnostics for relieving edema.
Contraindications: hypersensitivity to components, glaucoma, kidney disease, arterial hypertension, thyrotoxicosis, atherosclerosis, cardiac ischemia, pheochromocytoma, atrophic rhinitis. Apply 1-3 drops 4 times a day to adults, children from one to five years old - 2 drops 3 times a day. The duration of the course is not more than seven days. Side effects rarely occur in the form of burning and dry mucous membranes.
"Nazol Kids"
Mesaton's analogues in otolaryngology, created specifically for children - "Nazol Baby" and "Nazol Kids". The main active substance is phenylephrine hydrochloride. Additional components - eucalyptol, glycerol, macrogol, sodium hydrogen phosphate, edetate disodium, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, benzalkonium chloride, purified water. Difficult breathing is facilitated by the action of phenylephrine - a reduction in smooth muscles, vasoconstriction, and mucus reduction.
The remaining components eliminate discomfort, moisturize the mucous membrane, and have an anti-inflammatory effect. It is prescribed for the common cold, infections in the upper respiratory tract, for colds and flu, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis. "Nazol Kids" is available in the form of a spray, the allowable dosage is 2-3 sprays every 4 hours. Used for children from the age of six.
"Nazol Baby"
The drug "Mesaton" analogues and substitutes are available even for infants. This is “Nazol Baby” in the form of nasal drops with the active substance phenylephrine in 0.125% solution. This content of the component provides safety for the baby’s delicate mucosa.
Additional components - disodium salt, benzalkonium chloride, ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid, sodium phosphate disubstituted, polyethylene glycol, potassium phosphate monosubstituted, glycerol, purified water. It has an antimicrobial effect, without disturbing the receptor perception of children's mucosa. It is prescribed for colds and viral diseases, hay fever, allergic rhinitis.
In the first year of life, the drug is used 1 drop every 6 hours. For children from 1 year to 6, the dose is increased - 2 drops every 5 hours. The duration of the course is not more than three days. Use to women during pregnancy and lactation is contraindicated. These are the most convenient and safe analogues for the Mesaton preparation. The price in pharmacies is within 200 rubles.
Cold Remedies
One-component preparation "Mesaton" analogues bypassed in the fields of use. Medicines containing phenylephrine in combination with other active substances are used during colds and flu to eliminate characteristic symptoms. So, for example, Maksikold is available in the form of tablets or powder for the preparation of a solution taken orally.
Active ingredients - phenylephrine hydrochloride, paracetamol and ascorbic acid. It is used for chills, fever, nasal congestion, headache and muscle pain for colds. Other similar Russian-made drugs are Prostudox, Feniprex-S, and Flukomp.
