About the film
Visualizing the story of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory", the actors tried hard and sweated under the complex makeup, because the film is on a very thin line with the cartoon. This is an instructive and kind story, ideal for family viewing. The picture was shot in London, and the reason for work was the children's book of 1964 by Roald Dahl. There are two adaptations, but the most popular was the second, where Willy Wonka played Johnny Depp. The first film adaptation is called "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory".
Actors and roles
The lead actor in the first film adaptation was Gene Wilder, who was 38 years old at the time of filming. His father was a Jewish emigrant from Russia, and his real name given at birth was Jerome Silberman. The film turned out to be musical and received an Oscar nomination for this, as well as a Golden Globe for Wilder’s best male role.
Today's viewer is unlikely to understand the movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." Actors certainly play well, but the general atmosphere seems, to put it mildly, strange. Willy here seems almost a maniac, crazy about his work. The image of a secretive and vulnerable confectioner with a mask of eternal happiness was forgotten and, according to the audience, Wilder did not play the role. This is not to say that other actors showed themselves better. The chocolate factory Willy Wonka gathered very unpleasant characters, where Violetta became not just a perfectionist, but a man with a terrible megalomania, and Veruka became a cynical blackmailer. Even Charlie performed by Peter Ostrum does not seem like a sweet and kind boy. Alas, the first version of the film did not become a favorite among children, but the second version showed the beauty of the author’s tale.
Together with Tim Burton
Burton's films already a priori assume a role for Johnny Depp, and this is by no means bad. Depp fit perfectly with Tim's version of the chocolate factory and embodied the role of an eccentric, but very kind pastry chef. Willy Wonka at Depp - a boy who was brought up by an autocratic father who forbade simple children's joys.
In an interview, Depp said that his Wonka would be a symbiosis of Howard Hughes and the glamorous rock star of the 70s.
Willy's father role was written specifically for the film, to give a little confectioner's childhood story. It was Johnny Depp who led the film to the role of Charlie Bucket - Freddy Highmore. Depp himself attributes his insistent offer to Freddy’s stunning game in Fairyland.
Faces and characters
So, did the actors of the movie "Chocolate Factory" remember? Willy Wonka, masterfully played by Depp, attracted the audience due to perfect teeth, laconic, but slightly crazy style in clothes and a very original style of communication. Depp Willie is often embarrassed, but always keeps herself in control, but Willy Wilder can slightly scare the audience with her strange smile and a shock of curly hair, making the hero look like a clown.
Charlie in the first film adaptation - Peter Ostrum - at the time of filming was a guy of 14 years old. Perhaps that is why his character came out more adult than in the version of Freddy Highmore.
Charlie's parents were played by Noah Taylor and Helena Bonham Carter. The boy's grandparents were played by David Kelly, Eileen Essayot, David Morris and Liz Smith. In the first film adaptation, the Charlie family was not shown completely, but the audience remembered Jack Albertson as his grandfather Joe.
"Children outplayed adults"
Critics said just that about the second film adaptation, implying that the roles in children are spelled out much more widely than in the same Willy Wonka. Burton turned out to be a truly magical chocolate factory Willy Wonka. Actors and roles harmoniously combined into a single whole. The gluttony of August Stupid, the audience stubbornly associated with the actor Philip Vigrats, and the daughter of the millionaire Veruk Sol caused as much negativity as the young Julia Winter, who played her. The ambiguous character - the athlete Violetta Borigard - suppressed others with her pressure. By the way, actress Anna-Sofia Robb is very similar to her predecessor, Dennis Nikkerson!
The last guy is computer genius Mike Tiwi, who won the ticket because of a simple calculation. His role was played by Jordan Fry. In the film adaptation of Mel Stuart, this role was played by Paris Temmen.
