Antibacterial drug 'Biseptol 480'

Being a combined antibacterial drug, Biseptolum has a wide spectrum of bactericidal action. As a review of this medicine, I could offer my own. Once I even called him a panacea for all my troubles. Of course, this is not entirely true, but after the operation for osteomyelitis of the spine, the doctors recommended me to take Biseptolum (tablets) at the slightest hint of a cold or infection. I must admit that for more than 15 years there have been no reoperations. Perhaps this drug played a role.

This is not surprising, since with many infectious and inflammatory pathologies, the drug Biseptol 480 is prescribed. The instruction recommends its use in the following diseases:

  • Bronchitis, pneumonia, purulent pleurisy and other infectious diseases of the respiratory tract, including lung abscess.
  • Prostatitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis - infections of the genitourinary system.
  • Sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Infectious diseases of the digestive tract.
  • Infectious skin diseases, soft tissue infections: pyoderma, furunculosis and others.
  • Otitis, sinusitis.

Also, the drug "Biseptol 480" is effective in the treatment of other infections, inflammatory processes caused by microorganisms sensitive to the action of this drug. It is also used in the treatment of cholera, acute and chronic osteomyelitis. As already mentioned, the drug is combined, that is, consisting of several components. These are sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. The drug "Biseptol 480" in tablets is used as follows:

  • For children from two to five years of age, the dose is 480 mg per day - two (120 mg) tablets in the morning and evening.
  • For children under the age of 12 years, "Biseptol 480" is prescribed at the rate of 960 mg per day. This is twice a day, four (120 mg) tablets or one at a time - 480 mg.
  • With pneumonia, the calculation takes into account the content of sulfamethoxazole. For 1 kg of patient weight per day, 100 mg of the substance is allowed, and the reception is divided into three times.
  • The daily dose for children over 12 years of age and adults is 1 g 920 mg (twice daily 960 mg). If long-term therapy is needed, then 480 mg is prescribed twice a day.

The medicine should be taken after meals. Drink the tablets with water in small quantities. Between receptions should be equal intervals of time. Usually this period is 12 hours. This means that if the morning dose of the medicine is taken at 8-00, then the evening will be taken at 20-00. Accordingly, if the drug "Biseptol 480" is prescribed for three times a day, then the interval between doses is 6 hours. Then it will turn out, for example: 8 o’clock in the morning - the first reception, 2 o'clock in the afternoon - the second reception and 8 o’clock in the evening - the third.

The effectiveness of drug treatment largely depends on the regularity and timeliness of its use. The course of therapy lasts up to two weeks. Dosage and treatment are prescribed individually. If the course exceeds a five-day period, hematological control is performed. With changes in the blood picture, folic acid is prescribed.

My good review of Biseptol 480 does not mean that all readers should also treat any inflammatory process with this medicine. He was prescribed to me by the attending physician, who knows exactly what microorganisms caused sepsis, and then osteomyelitis of the spine.

Contraindications for taking Biseptolum:

  • Severe liver and kidney dysfunction.
  • Any disorders associated with the hematopoietic system.
  • Severe pathology of the cardiovascular system.
  • Age up to three months.
  • Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Also, biseptol is not prescribed during pregnancy.

An overdose of the drug is accompanied by clouding of consciousness, nausea and vomiting. As first aid, gastric lavage and heavy drinking are recommended. Of course, in such cases, you should call an ambulance. When taking biseptol with other drugs together, you should consult your doctor.
