The composition of Deep Perple: history, members of the group

In February 1968, Deep Perl (Dark Purple) was born in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and became legendary. The name comes from the song of the same name by M. Parish and P. Rose - Deep Purple. Because one of the band’s members, Blackmore, said she was loved by his grandmother. And even those who have not heard a single track of the group, at least once heard the mention of the legend of hard rock in the media.

Beginning of performances and the first composition of Deep Perple

Composition 1974

The story of the band began with the fact that two musicians working in the Roundabout band in Germany decided to return home to London and put together their own gang.

They were guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and organist John Lord. They created a group that took its rightful place on the podium of hard rock legends, which became on a par with Black Sabbat and Ice Zeplin. These three "mammoths" of hard rock are still loved and revered by connoisseurs of real live music. They are considered the forerunner of another direction - metal.

The initial composition of Deep Perple was as follows:

  1. Ritchie Blackmore (born 1945) is a guitar.
  2. John Lord (born 1941) is an organ.
  3. Ian Pace (born 1948) - drums.
  4. Nick Simper (born 1945) is a bass guitar.
  5. Rod Evans (born 1947) - vocals.

In April 1968, the guys played their first concert in Testrup, though they were called Concrete Gods then, and after the performance they made a whole list of mysterious names, but still it was decided to stop at Deep Perple.

Creative moment

It is known that initially the group went on a commercial path, playing in the style of pop rock, but it did not bring them much popularity (success was only overseas). And although the Lord’s venture with a symphony orchestra turned out to be very successful (there was a full house in the halls), the prospect of further playing in the same spirit annoyed the ambitious Richie, who wanted to lead the group to a new hard rock sound.

Innovative ideas

The first three albums gained fame only in America. In parallel, ā€œBlack Sabbathā€ and ā€œIce Zeplinā€ are releasing their first vinyls, loudly announcing to the world about the birth of something new and unprecedented, a style similar to which simply did not exist! Interest in new music was like a nuclear bomb suddenly exploding in the oceans. And Blackmore began to think about a plan for further actions to modernize the group, first of all deciding to change the style in which the Beatles were felt. The change of sound entailed a change of musicians.

New members are:

  • Ian Gillan (born 1945) - vocals.
  • Roger Glover (born 1945) is a bass guitar.

Both had a band called Episode six. With their arrival, the sound of Deep Perp was filled with leaden weight, and Gillan's dramatic powerful vocals successfully harmonized with new music. The group was immediately noticed and offered several contracts.

Fame did not come right away

In October 1970, a new album called In rock was released, which was just as successful as the acclaimed sabbath and Led Zeppelin vinyls. The sound was very original, combining baroque organ parts and heavy guitar riffs. In this composition, Deep Perple dramatically appeared at the peak of popularity, gaining millions of fans and imitators.

Following In rock came no less original and powerful vinyls: Meteor ("Meteor") 1971, Machine head ("Machine Head") 1972, which also conquered the world by the unusual sound and shocked by the unpredictability in building musical themes.

Creative decline

This was followed by the album Who do you Think we are? (Who do you think we are? In 1973, in which the notes of the initial commercial sound flashed, which, of course, had a bad effect on both the group and its popularity. This was enough for Glover and Gillan to leave, so as the creative atmosphere in the group died out.

Already in 1974, Deep Perple musicians took less time to devote creativity and more to touring and playing football.

The musicians who replaced them (David Coverdale (born 1951) - vocals, Glenn Hughes (born 1952) - back vocals, bass) made no contribution to the sound of the group, so after the release of vinyl "Petrel" became it is clear that the top charts are in the past for the group.

Leader Care

Young Richie Blackmore

Ritchie Blackmore, as the main composer, lost credibility, and his opinion ceased to interest the band members. So one day, hanging a guitar over his shoulder and leaving all rights to music and lyrics to the band, he simply left, slamming the door. This happened in early 1975, after which Ritchie put together a new gang called Rainbow ("Rainbow"), sending all his creative potential there. Around the same time, Gillan began a solo career. Glover also relocated to the producers, taking custody of the Nazareth group.

Temporary decay

In general, not a single captain remained at the helm of the ship "Dark Purple", and he went to the bottom with a stone. Tommy Bolin, who replaced Blackmore, did not live up to expectations, and the tracks from the 1975 album Come taste the band turned out to be just a miserable parody of the original version of the sound, as a result of which John Lord announced that the group had broken up.

Over the next eight years, there was no Deep Perple team. But Richie Blackmore and his Rainbow successfully wrote new tracks and gave concerts, Ian Gillan continued to perform solo and with various groups, and David Coverdale put together a gang of Witesnake.

Reunion and longing for the past

After some time, Gillan and Blackmore were overwhelmed with nostalgia for the sound of Deep Perple, a sample from 1970, and Perfect Strangers (Absolute Strangers) vinyl was released in 1984. The album was very successful in the music market, it scattered around the world with 3 million copies and attracted many new fans.

It seemed to the whole world that now with such a cast, Deep Perple would set the heat and continue to create, but, alas, the next album The House Of Blue Light, released almost three years later, although it was quite original turned out to be the last. A year later, Gillan for some reason leaves the group to return to solo activities.

Deep Perl in the USSR

Rehearsal is a holy thing!

In the Union, the Melody company released two Deep Purple albums:

  1. Collection of hits 1970-1972.
  2. The album "House of Blue Light" in 1987.

In the spring of 1990, Ian Gillan visited the USSR, having made happy his admirers locked in the country of socialism. For Soviet citizens, this was an unforgettable event!

Rebirth

Joe Lynn Turner, a longtime friend and colleague of Ritchie Blackmore on Rainbow, became the new vocalist of Deep Perple in 1990. In the second half of the 1990s, the group’s career was going smoothly, each year albums were released one after another:

  1. Purpendicular.
  2. Abandon.
  3. Total Abandon - Live in Australia.

The release of each of these albums was accompanied by tours of European countries, and April 2000 was significant because Deep Perple played a tour in Russia and gave a performance in Minsk.

In May 2001, Luciano Pavarotti invites the group to take part in the charity festival Pavarotti & Friends, the proceeds of which were transferred to the fund for helping children of Afghanistan.

Participation in the Kremlin concert

It’s no secret that the Prime Minister (and at that time the President) of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev likes ā€œheavyā€ music, that’s why the management of Gazprom, in gratitude, invited the group ā€œDeep Perlā€ to take part in a concert on the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary of the company which took place in February 2008.

The performance of the team in the Kremlin Palace in the London newspaper The Times was described as "a rare harmony in our time in Anglo-Russian relations."

Interview with Ian Gillan

Ian Gillan

According to the living legend of hard rock, the only best, golden composition of Deep Perple existed only from 1969 to 1973. Indeed, the innovative powerful sound was at a time when the group was composed of:

  1. Richie Blackmore
  2. Ian Gillan
  3. John Lord
  4. Ian Pace.
  5. Roger Glover.

And all that was after was just a high-quality imitation of the legendary perls. Musicians often changed, and new ones did not bring any zest to the sound.

Over the fifty years of its existence, the group has replaced more than one musician, and it is customary to label different compositions in a special way. So, for example, Mrk I is the original, Mrk II is golden, and Mrk VII is the present.

With the departure of Gillan, Hughes and Coverdale joined the group. This 1973 Deep Perple squad was labeled Mrk III, and after the departure of the team’s soul, Ritchie Blackmore, the squad received Mrk IV number.

In an interview, Gillan said:

The vinyls released by Deep Purple Mrk III are completely of no interest to me. I didn’t even listen to a single track! Imagine that you will meet your ex with a new guy, what will you feel? For me, these concepts are equivalent. But I still listened to the Taste The Band album, released by Mrk IV (Dip Perple cast in 1974), and in fairness I will say that they are nothing more than imitators of a gold cast.

In addition, according to Gillan, Glenn Hughes is a very gifted musician, but the technique of the game is very different from the traditional Dipperle. There were standing guys in Mrk III and Mrk IV, but there was no solidarity in the team. Each pulled a blanket over himself. It was so practically from the very beginning, because it is difficult for such strong personalities as Blackmore and Gillan to work together, because both of them are self-sufficient leaders.

Among other things, former Deep Perl vocalist compared rock music to football, in which the presence of professional players gives no guarantee of a brilliant victory.

About the current composition of Deep Perple (2017), in which only Ian Pace and Roger Glover remained from the gold, Ian Gillan chose to remain silent.

But the living legend again returned to his native group, and soon he will visit Russia.
