Trigeminal inflammation: symptoms and treatment

Foergill's disease is more commonly known as inflammation of the trigeminal nerve. Symptoms of this disease are manifested by regular painful spasms of the facial muscles. Sometimes the pain only affects the eye area, sometimes half the head or even the whole head is affected. The pains are very strong, sharp, similar to an electric shock. Attacks of pain can be of various durations - sometimes a few seconds, and sometimes a couple of minutes. It happens that pain impulses happen once or twice a day, and it happens that every hour. Atypical cases are observed when the pain does not subside - in this case, the disease is more difficult to treat.

But you can’t immediately, if a person complains of acute cyclic pain in the face, make a diagnosis of “trigeminal inflammation” - symptoms similar to this disease also occur in cases of atypical forms of headache with multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, infectious lesions or neurological problems. Sometimes such shooting pain is caused by local diseases in the bones of the head, sinuses and jaw. MRI will help to identify this disease, in other words - magnetic resonance therapy.

The causes of trigeminal inflammation are very different - from colds to injuries, from tooth extraction to simple shaving. Symptoms of trigeminal inflammation usually appear immediately and in their entirety - acute shooting pain, followed by periods of subsidence. Threats to life, in general, are not represented by the inflammation of the trigeminal nerve itself. Symptoms are the main problem of this disease. The pain syndrome is so strong that it makes patients live in constant fear of new attacks, plunges them into depression, deprives them of sleep and appetite, and in some cases leads to suicide.

Trigeminal inflammation: The symptoms of this disease are caused by the contact of blood vessels with the root of this nerve. The fact is that the nerve root constantly rubs against the blood vessels, and each beat of the heart wears out the insulating membrane of the nerve and leads to its irritation. Most often, women are affected by this disease, and from age categories, the risk group is people older than 50 years.

Inflammation of the trigeminal nerve, the symptoms and treatment of this disease have been repeatedly described in the special medical literature. The main treatment is aimed at alleviating the main side effect of the disease - acute pain. Anticonvulsants are successfully used that inhibit the activity of nerve cells that cause pain. Invasive therapy, including killing nerve fiber, blockade, nerve decompression technique, as well as drug therapy, helps to relieve pain. Sometimes a single injection, a single decompression procedure, is enough to relieve pain. Before the appointment of invasive therapy, fluoroscopy should be performed, allowing you to see the anatomical features of the placement of the nerve. Then, with a thin needle, an anesthetic, a steroid, or a special substance that kills a painful nerve is injected into the focus of the pain syndrome. Such therapy is well tolerated and gives positive results almost immediately. More and more doctors are now opting for a drug called Carbamazepine. If the pain has not abated within 2 days of taking this drug, you need to reconsider the diagnosis. In the case when Foergill disease is caused by compression of the nerve artery deep in the tissues of the skull, microvascular decompression is used. The neurosurgeon simply pushes the vessel squeezing the trigeminal nerve to the side. Invasive therapy, analgesic injections and decompression treatment achieve long-term pain relief and prevent its reappearance.
