Cinema in France is always distinguished by a special charm. It is difficult to answer unequivocally - either the fact that the Lumiere brothers from France invented this type of art is either the national color, although even today French cinema stands apart in the world of cinema, and French actresses and actors stand out on the screen against the background of their colleagues abroad.
A vivid example of this are Vincent Cassel, Jean Reno, Marion Cotillard, Sophie Marceau. One of the most famous actresses of the twentieth century was Annie Girardeau.
Childhood
The future film and theater actress was born on October 25, 1931. This happens in Paris, the capital of France. Her mother works as an obstetrician, but Annie has no information about her father - he leaves the family before the baby is born.
Little Annie Girardot loves her mother and respects her work. That is why, after graduating from school, she decides to go to nursing courses. Studying in the courses, Annie Girardot successfully nurses a premature baby, and this is noted by mentoring doctors.
Youth
Annie prophesy an excellent career in medicine, but the girl’s mother knows about her real dreams, so she insists that her daughter try to enroll in acting classes. She offers her a try, saying that if Annie fails, she will have the opportunity to return and work as a midwife. Thanks to her mother’s support, the girl appears before the selection committee, and she, in turn, sees the girl’s abilities and enrolls Annie Girardot in the conservatory of dramatic arts. In the mornings the girl studies, and in the evenings she sings in "Rouge Rouge", the Parisian cabaret.
Theatre
Toward the end of her studies, Annie Girardeau has time to appear in several productions in the theater, for which she receives awards. According to the recommendations of university teachers, in 1954 the girl began her activities in the Comedy Frances Theater, where she first received secondary roles of witty and lively heroines.
The following year, Annie Girardeau appears on the wide screen for the first time in the film adaptation of the book of Agatha Christie, the film "Thirteen at the Table." Before that, the actress in 1950 starred in Pigalle-Saint-Germain-des-Prés in an episodic role, however, during the installation, the episode with her participation is cut out.
"Comedy Francaise"
In 1956, Jean Cocteau offers Annie a major role in his new work, Typewriter. The playwright examines the girl’s ability to play roles in a drama (previously, Annie Girardeau was assigned the role of an actress in comedies). In preparation for the performance, he helps the girl change her image.
"Typewriter" is a tremendous success. The production is discussed by many thematic publications, and the famous magazine “Paris Match” devotes an entire article to the actress to a couple of pages with a photo of Annie Girardeau. In the same year, she starred in the film "The Man with the Golden Key", for the game in which she was awarded the Suzanne Bianneti Prize. This year, the movie "Playback is forbidden."
The theater does not welcome the combination of playing the stage with filming in a movie, but they are interested in the actress, which is why she is offered to sign a contract for a decent amount, albeit with restrictions regarding shooting in films. The leadership of "Comedy Francaise" understands that they may lose Annie Girardeau and offer the actress this contract. All French actresses of that time dream of a career in Comedy Frances, but Annie really wants to test herself in different roles, and this will become possible only when shooting in films. This bondage does not suit the girl, especially Annie Girardot already manages to feel the delights of shooting in films, so she leaves the theater in 1957 after 3 years of working in it.
In the same year, Annie appears in the films “The light is on” and “The red light is on”. However, the girl does not forget about her activities in the theater. The performance on the play “Two on a Swing” by William Gibson, released in 1958, is well received by viewers and critics. The writer Andre Morois in an interview with the magazine "She" praises Annie and calls her and Jeanne Moreau one of the best actresses of her generation.
