The protective mechanism of allergic reactions is associated with profound changes in the body. Their causes have not yet been fully studied, so the treatment of allergies is a rather complicated problem. Most often, only symptomatic therapy is prescribed to patients, allowing only the manifestations of this disease to be removed.
Excessive production of histamine during the manifestation of allergies provokes inflammatory processes in the eyes, nasopharynx, causes irritation of the bronchi and skin. To reduce such body reactions, patients are advised to take antihistamines. Taking medicine for allergies , the patient feels an improvement in overall health, his symptoms and external manifestations of the disease gradually disappear.
There are 3 generations of antihistamines that are used to combat allergies.
1st generation
Unlike preparations of the 2nd and 3rd generation, such formulations are used quite rarely. Although they begin to act very quickly, but the therapeutic effect is about five hours. Reception of these compounds negatively affects muscle tone, they have a pronounced hypnotic and sedative effect.
With prolonged use of such agents, their therapeutic effect decreases. This class of drugs includes: Diphenhydramine, Suprastin, Diprazin, Fenkarol, Tavegil, Chloropyramine, Peritol, Pipolfen, Diazolin.
2nd generation
Compared with the previous generation, drugs belonging to this group do not affect the mental or physical activity of a person. They are also not addictive, this makes it possible to use them for a long time (even up to 1 year). Such substances do not have a sedative or anticholinergic effect.
The duration of these formulations has also been increased, which allows them to be taken only once a day. Even after stopping taking such a medicine for allergies, it can have its therapeutic effect for about a week.
This class of antihistamines includes: Claridol, Lomilan, Rupafin, Zirtek, Clarotadine, Kestin, Claritin, Lorahexal, Clarisens.
3rd generation
These drugs are the newest and most effective means in the fight against allergies. They have the properties of prodrugs, and, penetrating the tissues of the body, turn into active pharmacological metabolites. These substances do not have a sedative and cardiotoxic effect. They have a long term of action, reaching 2 days. Even with prolonged use, any medicine for allergies of 3 generations is not addictive. The intake of these antihistamines is independent of the meal schedule.
Such drugs are characterized by high selectivity, they are not characterized by negative manifestations of the central nervous system, since they do not overcome the blood-brain barrier.
In addition to antihistamines, it is recommended to use the drug Polysorb MP. It binds allergens and removes them from the body. Polysorb allowed from birth, so it is possible to use it for children.
The use of all these drugs is possible only after the appointment of a doctor.
