A masterpiece about the life of gangsters
In the world hire "Good Fellows" (Ray Liotta in the title role) came out simultaneously with the next film about Don Corleone. The film "Nice Guys". Plot
Young Henry adored gangsters from his youth. In his dreams, he wanted to become just as cool: to wear expensive clothes, to drive in good cars and enjoy respect that would turn into veneration. And in order to realize his childhood dream, a young guy begins to work as an assistant for one of the bandits. And although Hill Henry performs his assigned tasks slowly, he climbs the ladder of the hierarchy. Each time he is entrusted with more and more important tasks.
After a while, the main character pays attention to Paul Cicero, who introduces him to the thief Jimmy Conway. In turn, Jimmy introduces Henry Hill to Tommy DeVito. And it would seem that Henry is absent from the criminal path, but quite unexpectedly he is arrested for illegal sale of goods. During interrogations, the protagonist did not surrender anyone, thanks to which he received universal respect.
And soon, Henry becomes a real gangster. He begins to work with Tommy and Jimmy, with whom he performs a variety of scams. The main character marries and starts a family. But, as expected, representatives of the law prevent his family happiness: Henry Hill is again sent to prison, in which he begins to engage in drug trafficking.
Crucial moment
But drugs, as for many gangsters, became for Henry Hill the end of his criminal career. After the main character was released, he again began to reverse old affairs. But soon he began to have new troubles due to the fact that he could not be accepted into the "family". When Henry and Jimmy find out that their partner Tommy will be adopted into the "family", he will soon be killed. But the friendship between the two partners does not remain. Henry decides to seriously sell drugs against the will of his boss.
Very soon, the protagonist is again arrested. During the investigation, he was released on bail, but now no one is happy about this. Henry's wife gives him some cash and chases him away, and Jimmy wants to kill his old friend at all. Realizing this, the main character surrenders his "friends" to the police and with his wife forever hides under a different name.

This film was well received by almost all famous movie critics. Many of them put this movie in first place among the best works of the year. The film "Good Fellows" (1990) after the release of the rental has become a recognized classic movie about gangsters and an ideal example of the director.
Jonathan Rosembaum himself said that the film "Good Fellows", reviews of which are almost all positive, is the most exquisite film of those to which Scorsese put his hand. Abel Glenn is sure that this attractive, stylish and very cruel picture is still Scorsese's best work. Many newspapers had articles stating that the movie "Goodfellas" makes one believe that this was all really happening.
Movie making and design
As we said above, the film "Good Fellows" is based on real events. The director himself was so enchanted by the book, based on which the film was shot that he was interested in all the details that occur in the life of criminals. To film the story of Henry, Scorsese sent a letter to the writer. He, not believing his eyes, threw him away, thinking that this was someone's joke. Scorsese, without waiting for an answer, had to go to the writer himself. The author of the book admitted to the director that he did not expect such a development of events at all.
