Moscow cinemas: list of the best, visitor reviews

Theaters, museums, exhibitions, events in city parks and all kinds of festivals - in the capital you can find entertainment for every taste. However, the most popular cinemas remain. Amazing sound, comfortable seats and, of course, films - modern Moscow cinemas are very different from those that were thirty years ago, and today it is much easier to buy a ticket.

Popular Networks

The list of cinemas in Moscow is quite large, but you can classify them by belonging to a particular network.

  • "Formula Kino".
  • “Karo Film”.
  • "Five Stars".
  • “Diamond Cinema”;
  • “Luxor”.
  • "Cinema Park".

In addition to commercial networks, there is the Moscow City Public Library “Moscow Cinema” (cinema “Zvezda”, “Saturn” and “Artistic”) and Moscow cinemas for children and youth (cinema “Birch”, “Vympel” and “Iskra”).

Everything in the movie club

For many Muscovites, the Berezka movie theater, opened in 1962, is associated with childhood. Today, a comfortable room meets all the requirements, including for people with disabilities. It often hosts events for veterans, large families and orphans. Thanks to such a policy, “Birch” appeared in our review.

Residents of the Perovo district, where the cinema is located, note affordable prices and a modern repertoire. Visitors, in addition to new hire, can see performances and creative evenings. On the second floor there is a children's cafe and an entertainment center.

The main guests of the cinema are children for whom various master classes are held, film clubs open and much more.

"Karo Film"

The Karo Film network, like many Moscow cinemas, is widely represented in shopping centers. Of the total mass, only one stood out earlier - “Pushkinsky”. This is the largest premiere cinema in Europe, built in the heart of the capital in 1961.

For many years, the cinema "Russia" (former name) remained the main cinema site of the USSR. Less than ten years ago, the building was transferred to the largest Caro Film distributor for long-term lease, which was reconstructed and changed its name. For many years, the main events of the Moscow International Film Festival were organized here, and all-Russian premieres took place in a hall for 2056 seats.

In 2012, the next page of history was turned over. “Pushkinsky” was returned to its former name and again closed for reconstruction. Today, Stage Entertainment (musical Little Mermaid) demonstrates its projects on the stage of the Rossiya Theater.

"October"

After the closure of Pushkin, all the functions of the country's main cinema were transferred to the Oktyabr movie center. The large hall, designed for 1518 seats, is today used for premieres, regular rentals, private shows, festivals and ceremonies.

Five years ago, the IMAX Hall was opened at the Oktyabr Cinema. The center on Novy Arbat has long been a favorite place for Muscovites; here you can not only watch a movie in one of the eleven halls, but also have dinner in an Italian restaurant, as well as have fun in a cozy karaoke bar.

"Formula Kino"

“Formula Kino” by the number of cinema halls is considered the largest network in Russia. Moscow, St. Petersburg, Murmansk, Syktyvkar, Novokuznetsk, Krasnodar, Ryazan and Novosibirsk - a total of 34 modern cinemas.

In addition, 6 halls allow you to show movies in IMAX format, which gives viewers unique sound purity, image quality and immersive effect.

According to reviews, one of the best in the network is considered to be “Horizon Cinema” (“Frunzenskaya” m.), Which was opened in 1999. Main characteristics:

  • four comfortable rooms (including a business class with 34 seats);
  • speaker system ElectroVoice and JBL;
  • film projectors Christie 2030 (2020, 2010).

Visitors can use the services of the cinema bar, as well as try coffee at the Chocolate House or the Asian menu at WabiSabi.

Despite its rather modest size, the Horizon Cinema (Frunzenskaya metro station, Komsomolsky pr. 21/10) is very popular because of its repertoire. The management managed to find a balance between Hollywood blockbusters and conceptual tapes. With great success broadcasts of various performances and documentaries are held here.

The main disadvantage of Horizon is the lack of parking and not the best service in the movie bar.

"Five Stars"

The best Moscow cinemas, as a rule, are concentrated in the city center. The Five Stars network is another confirmation of this: cinema centers on Novokuznetskaya, Chistoprudny Boulevard and Paveletskaya, the only exception is Five Stars in Biryulyovo.

According to the reviews of moviegoers, the best in the network is Five Stars on Paveletskaya (25 Bakhrushina St.). Until 2001, the Central Children's Theater was located in a three-story building.

diamond cinema shabolovskaya
Today, visitors can take part in a movie show in one of the five large halls that were named after the great filmmakers: Gabin, Ptushko, Chaplin, Roland and Kurosawa. Several cafes and bars, a waterfall, aquariums and a suspension bridge - the original interior will not leave anyone indifferent.

In the morning and afternoon, special sessions for children are held here, on the second floor there is a children's entertainment center, as well as the attraction “Merry Train”.

Visitors celebrate the stylish interior and the incredible atmosphere. The main disadvantages:

  • high prices (typical for the city center);
  • too deep chairs in the hall, which is inconvenient for small spectators;
  • Do not accept credit cards.

"Diamond Cinema"

The most modest on our list was the Almaz Cinema network, which consists of only three cinemas.

The “Diamond Cinema” (Shabolovskaya metro station) was opened in 1963 and for the next thirty years delighted moviegoers with its repertoire. In the 90s there was a period of calm, and the halls themselves have long been in need of repair. The reconstruction took place in 2000-2001, after which the updated “Diamond” could please the audience with the modern Dolby Digital Surround EX system. Today, in addition to the usual armchairs, the cinema has cozy sofas and VIP boxes with tables.

Unfortunately, after almost 15 years, the Almaz cinema (Shabolovskaya m.) Looks hopelessly outdated. Cinema fans note a slightly blurred image on the screen in one of the halls, problems with sound and ventilation systems, as well as battered seats. The “pleasant” experience is added by the behavior of the staff.

Pros:

  • proximity to the metro;
  • affordable prices;
  • promotions and the possibility of obtaining a club card.

"35 mm"

If you are bored with Hollywood action films and primitive comedies, then pay your attention to Moscow cinemas with an unusual repertoire. For example, the center of the arthouse “35 mm” at ul. Pokrovka 47/24.

The cinema is located in the Central House of Entrepreneurs and consists of two halls.

Ambitious cultural projects, festivals and new hire, presented in the original language with Russian subtitles - sometimes there are huge queues at the box office. The original repertoire and affordable prices compensate many for the lack of comfort, because the cinema has long been in need of repair. Perhaps the owners of “35 mm” believe that after the reconstruction the place will lose its charm. However, viewers have a completely different opinion on this matter.
