Ear hurts in a child

Ear pain most often occurs with a cold or after bathing in water. Sometimes it is provoked by the ingestion of foreign objects. Especially often this problem occurs in children aged 3 to 5 years. By this age, immunity has not yet been strengthened, and the slightest effect causes the occurrence of problematic health situations. When a child’s ear hurts, the first way to alleviate suffering is to make a warming compress. Take a piece of cheesecloth and fold it to make a piece measuring 10 x 10 cm in 4 layers. Moisten in a 50% solution of vodka, squeeze well and attach to the sore ear, cellophane on top, and then tie with a scarf. So that delicate skin does not burn before applying moistened gauze, spread it with petroleum jelly or baby cream.

If the child complains that the ear hurts inside, and in addition, discharge appeared, then carrying out warming procedures is strictly prohibited. In this case, soak a small piece of fleece in boric alcohol and put it inside. This method will help to dull the pain before a visit to the doctor. In no case should alcohol or vodka leak into the sink to prevent a burn of the delicate mucous membrane.

If the child’s ear hurts, then do not self-medicate, using a variety of folk remedies without medical advice. It is necessary to determine for what reason the pain occurred. Very often, the inflammatory process begins with a cold. In this case, you just need to try to alleviate the pain with a warming compress. Colds and nasal congestion will pass , and inflammation in the ear will be cured. You just need to try to cure a cold as soon as possible and get rid of a cold.

Very often, after bathing in a river, pool or sea, the child begins to complain of pain in the ears. This problem is better to prevent than to worry then what to do with pain in the ear after bathing. After the child has come out of the water after swimming, special attention should be paid to removing water and drying the ear canal. Take a special cotton swab (they are sold in stores and pharmacies), carefully enter inside and gently scroll, wetting the remaining moisture there. This is especially important when swimming in chlorinated water pools. The remaining chlorine can irritate the mucous membrane of the auricle. A very good method is to dry it using a hairdryer. This method will dry and warm the ear. Direct a stream of warm air from a distance of 40-50 cm, and let it blow in the passage for 20-30 seconds, and then repeat the procedure from the other side. This method will help to avoid problems with inflammation.

If, despite the preventive measures taken, in the evening, after bathing, it turned out that the child’s ear hurts, then do not panic, but try to relieve pain. Start with a warming compress. It helps very well in this case, moisten a small piece of fleece in medical alcohol, squeeze well and insert as deep as possible inside the ear. Just do not drink vodka. Here the effect is that alcohol attracts water to itself, and vodka is already sufficiently diluted alcohol with water, and therefore the cotton wool moistened with it will not attract water to itself.

One more important advice. Try not to remove the often formed sulfur from the baby’s abalone. The fact is that sulfur, together with fat secretions, makes the surface of the passage not wettable, and it becomes difficult for water to penetrate deep into. This is a natural protection against ingress of water.

So, if the child’s ear hurts, do not panic, calm the baby, try to relieve the pain syndrome and be sure to consult an ENT doctor. If this problem yours arisen at night, and after all the measures taken, the baby’s pain does not go away, then you should definitely call emergency doctors.
