Babbit Kapoor: the bitterness and sweetness of Bollywood life

Any lover of Indian cinema, having heard the name of Babbita Kapoor, will be thrilled: what does this actress have in common with a Bollywood star, famous for centuries by Raj? We will highlight this question in our article. But actress Babbita also has her own "track record." She starred in films in the late 60s - early 70s of the last century. And, although her acting career was short, Babbitt managed to be remembered by the audience. She was a girl of unearthly beauty and extraordinary talent. Her appearance is not entirely Indian. Too light skin sets her apart from a number of other actresses. What is Babbit doing now? We will also talk about this in our article.

Origin, childhood

On April 20, 1948, a girl was born in the family of Sindh immigrants from Pakistan and settled in Bombay, who was named Bhambhani. Her father was actor Hari Shivdasani, and her aunt was the famous star of Sadhana Shivdasani. The family was more than wealthy, and the girl’s parents could well give her a good education.

However, the ancestral genes began to appear in Bhambhani of cheating. Acting talent showed up in the baby very early. She was endowed with a characteristic beautiful appearance, loved to sing and dance. And these qualities are a prerequisite for a career in Bollywood. Sadhanp Shivdasani, Aunt Bhambhani, shone on the screens of Indian cinema in the sixties. And the niece decided to go in her footsteps. She refused to go to college and persuaded her father to test her. She invented the stage name for herself - Babbita. Kapoor she began to be called later, when through marriage she became a member of the clan of the famous actor.

Carier start

In 1966, Hari Shivdasani, the father of Bhambhani, using his connections in the world of Indian cinema, arranged for his daughter a test with the director J.P. Sippi. He was just about to shoot the film "Secret" (Raaz). The first take yielded results. Babbit Kapoor had not yet managed to get home after a test shoot, when the director called her with a proposal to start work in fifteen days.

Rumors of a talented girl quickly spread throughout Bollywood. And even before the movie “Mystery” was released, the young actress managed to make her debut in another film - “Million Rupees” (Dus Lakh). This film was a resounding success. The actress rained invitations to appear on the set. And the hardworking Babbita received them. Sometimes she starred in two projects at once.

Babbita Kapoor: filmography

The Indian actress has a track record of nineteen works. Given that she starred in a fairly short period of time, from 1966 to 1971, this is a significant achievement. We already mentioned The Million Rupees and The Secret, in which Babbit Kapoor starred. The films “Duty”, “Minions of Fate” and “Children” also added to the actress charisma.

But the real sensation was her work in the film "The Heart of the Beauty", which was released in 1969. After that, Babbit began to be invited to work together with the "star cast" of Bollywood. She starred with Rajendra Kumar in the film Anjana, Manoj Kumar in Pehchan, Shammi Kapoor and Dharmendra in the film When, Why and Where? In 1971, on the set of The Rivers of Time, she played a double role with her future husband Randhir Kapoor. This film was a debut for her fiance and son of the illustrious Raj.

Personal life

This is not to say that lovers, as is often the case in the world of cinema, met on the set. Randhir Kapoor has been in love with Babbitt since school. He often waited for her after filming. And his courtship was rewarded. On November 6, 1971, a magnificent wedding was organized for the son of Raj Kapoor and Bhambhani Shivdasani.

Babbit Kapoor, according to the tradition of the clan in which married women do not work, left the stage. She just completed filming in her last film Ek Hasina Do Diwane, which was released in 1972. But the family life of the star couple did not work out. Babbitt gave birth to her husband two daughters - Karisma and Karina. But when the girls were very young, she left her husband and took them with her. Probably something very serious happened, because with this act the former actress not only challenged traditional society, but also broke with the powerful Kapurov clan. In 2006, neither she nor her daughters even appeared at the wedding of her niece, husband Ridhima Kapoor, who married Bharat Sonya.

How Babbita Kapoor lives now

A photo of a beautiful woman with dimples on her cheeks has long ceased to adorn the posters of new films. Babbitt left her stage career to concentrate fully on the future of her daughters. Thanks to her, they managed to become successful actresses. When Karina received a prize for her role in the movie Omkara, she expressed gratitude only to her mother, not mentioning a word about her father.

In 2005, Babbita became a grandmother. At the moment, she has two grandchildren - the girl Samayra and the boy Kiaan Raj, who was born in 2010. These are the children of the eldest daughter, Karishma, who is married to businessman Sanjay Kapoor. Younger Karina recently (in 2012) married Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. This couple has no children yet.

But the mother of the young actresses of Babbitt suddenly got married. She was not officially divorced from Randhir Kapoor. And in 2007, she returned to her husband. And this is surprising, because the couple did not live together for more than twenty years.
