The State Puppet Theater of the Republic of Mordovia (Saransk) was born from an amateur studio. Almost 80 years ago, he received professional status. His current repertoire is quite rich.
Theater History
The State Puppet Theater of the Republic of Mordovia became a professional collective in 1937. He was born from an amateur circle, which was organized by circus artists. The first years of existence were difficult, since there were no professional directors, the material base was very weak, there was no room. But there were people who loved their job and therefore overcame all difficulties.
From the very beginning of its career, the theater managed to win the love of the audience. The first professional director appeared here in 1948. It was a talented N. Misyura. In 1949, Iraida Kazakova became the director of the theater. This woman has done a lot for the development of the troupe.
In 1970, Vladimir Kazachenko came to the State Puppet Theater of the Republic of Mordovia as the main director. Thanks to him, a lot of very interesting and wonderful performances appeared in the repertoire. Under him, performances were staged in Mordovian language, created according to the myths of Mordovians. Soon, a private building was also built for the theater. Native for the puppeteers became Volodarsky Street. It is there that they live to this day.
For 20 years, since 1978, the theater was directed by Evgeny Kuryshev. He was a creative person and a skilled manager. This person had a great influence on the formation of a new repertoire and the development of the theater on a stationary stage. For almost 80 years of its existence, the troupe was repeatedly updated. Today, recognized masters of the stage and talented youth serve here. The theater did not lose its cheerfulness and youth, despite its venerable age, and at the same time became much more mature in creative terms than it was at the beginning of its journey.
Theater today
Today, the State Puppet Theater of the Republic of Mordovia is a regular participant in various festivals, both puppet and folklore. He regularly becomes a diploma or laureate. Among the festivals that obeyed the Mordovian puppeteers: “Workhorse” in the city of Naberezhnye Chelny, “Petrovsky booth” in Kaliningrad, “Rainbow” in Samara and so on. And also the theater has repeatedly participated in international competitions abroad. In 2005, the theater was declared a particularly valuable cultural heritage. Over the years of his existence, he had a chance to survive many different interesting events.

Very important in the life of the puppeteers of Mordovia was the festival "Sunflower". In the national language, its name sounds like "Chinjaramo." Puppet theater is its organizer. It was first held in 2011. His birth was timed to coincide with the great holiday - the millennium anniversary of the unity of the peoples of Mordovia and Russia. The festival has international status. Guests and participants gathered from different cities of our vast Motherland, as well as from other countries. In 2011, artists came from Grozny, Dzerzhinsk, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Poltava and even Istanbul (Turkey).
In 2013, the team was declared one of the best in the field of social and economic development of the Republic. Today, the director of the theater is a young, talented, creative and promising person who knows how to lead, - Evgeny Romanovsky. He has the title of Honored Artist of the Republic of Mordovia.
