Creation

Kondrat Krapiva, whose biography is described in this article, began to write in two languages at once - Belarusian and Russian. His first work in Russian “Once upon a time” (feuilleton in verse) was published in 1922 in the “Krasnoarmeyskaya Pravda”. In the same year, the newspaper “Soviet Belarus” published a satirical poem “Matchmakers” in Belarusian. In the mid-1920s, the first collections of Kondrat appeared - Nettle and Osti.

Nettles are now known as a satirical writer, but in reality he tried to write serious stories. The editors praised him, but published exclusively satire. And readers can observe a similar duality in the entire work of Nettles.

Until 1926, Kondrat was a member of the literary association Maladnyak, and then transferred to Uzvyshsha.

At the beginning of his career, Nettle tried to master the prosaic genre, creating feuilleton. But then he abandoned this activity.

In all the magazines where Kondrat worked as an editor, he defended the Belarusian language. Any criticism of him was ridiculed. On this subject, the writer even has a fable "Goat."

Nettle made many translations. He translated into Belarusian Shevchenko, Twardowski, Mayakovsky, Chekhov, Ostrovsky, Gogol, Pushkin, Krylov, Fonvizin, Shakespeare and many others.

Kondrat wrote until the end of his life. He put the typewriter aside only when his vision deteriorated. The writer completed his last melodramatic work, “At the Wall,” at the age of 86.
