The name of this berry comes from the old Russian word "currant", which means "strong smell." Indeed, this berry has a strong aroma, which is inherent in the leaves and branches of the bush on which currants grow.
It is a storehouse of vitamins and nutrients, and in order to replenish the daily intake of vitamin C, you need to eat only 20 berries per day. And it doesn’t matter at all, red it will be a berry on the branches, classic black or exotic white - any one is equally useful. But how can this be done in those times of the year when there are no fresh berries in the garden, and the store ones are even frozen in appearance and do not inspire confidence? In late autumn, winter and spring, currants with sugar will come to the rescue. Such a preparation will help increase immunity, improve and strengthen the body throughout the whole year.
So that twisted currants pleased you throughout the winter, choose a recipe to taste. Here are a few simple options.
- For one kilogram of berries you will need one and a half kilograms of fine sugar. Currants must be carefully sorted, the stalks, twigs and leaves removed, the shaggy tops are removed with disinfected manicure scissors. Then the berries are placed in the bowl of a blender or food processor and thoroughly ground. When the grated berries turn into a homogeneous mass - pour sugar in a thin stream, then beat again. This currant, twisted with sugar, can be stored in sterilized jars as a simple jam. If the jars are ordinary, it is better to store the berry in the refrigerator.
- If you don’t have a blender and a harvester at home, or if you just don’t want to bother with them, you can do it much easier: twisted currants (with sugar) are prepared using a wooden cracker. Washed and dried berries should be put in a deep enameled bowl and grind with a pestle, add sugar and mix. Dry sterilized jars are filled with grated berries, sprinkled with sugar on top and closed. This recipe for twisted currants requires aging in 2-3 days: during this time the sugar will dissolve, and the jam will acquire a rich taste.
- Here is another recipe for those who prefer the taste of truly fresh berries. Sorted and washed currants should be grated in a blender or even simply twisted in a meat grinder, add sugar to taste (someone loves acidic, and someone loves sweeter). Now we fill the cooked molds with a lid with this aromatic mixture, close and put them in the freezer. Such currants - twisted, with sugar - can be stored forever. The best part is that during defrosting, its beneficial properties are not lost, and the taste always remains exactly the same as that of berries that have just been picked from the bush.

Berries prepared in one of the above ways will always be a universal dessert. They can be eaten as an independent dish, say, with tea, added to ice cream, spread on toasts and fresh buns, and soaked on pies. Moreover, from this currant it is quite possible to make fruit drinks, compotes and even homemade wine.
