Sergei Bodrov is often called a unique phenomenon in Russian cinema. He did not have a professional education in the field of cinema, but he became the hero of the whole era. The film "Brother", where Bodrov starred, as well as the film "Sisters" he shot, became a symbol of a whole generation.

Bodrov was born in Moscow in 1971 in the family of director Bodrov Sr. In school, he was engaged in an in-depth study of French, and after graduation he planned to enter the theater faculty. However, then his father dissuaded Sergei from this decision, saying that cinema is more a state of mind than a profession. And so Bodrov entered the history department of Moscow State University. There he studies the history of the art of Venice, and since 1991 he often begins to visit Italy, working as a lifeguard on local beaches.

Tragic death

The remains of the research team were found soon - only six years after the death of Bodrov and his crew. No one expected that on September 20, 2002 an avalanche of ice and snow would descend from the Ossetian mountains. According to the official version of what happened, a huge glacier fell from Mount Jimara. He covered the entire Karmadon Gorge, where the film called “The Messenger” was filmed, with a layer of ice 60 meters thick.
The mass of ice, which swept at a speed of about 180 km / h, claimed the lives of more than a hundred people. Together with them, Sergey Bodrov Jr. died. The remains of him or someone else from the crew were found, for a long time remained unknown. Then a DNA analysis was carried out, through which the identity of these remains was established. It turned out to be the ashes of Iranbek Tsirikhov. Sergei Bodrov, like his crew, after the tragedy were reported as missing.
