The drug "Streptocide" (powder), the use of which is time-tested in medicine, is used for topical treatment of wounds, burns, erysipelas, acne, various abscesses, boils, as well as tonsillitis. This substance belongs to sulfonamides and has a pronounced antimicrobial effect. Streptocide is supplied to pharmacies in several dosage forms - in tablets of 0.3 and 0.5 g and powder, in the form of liniment (5%) and ointment (10%).
The drug "Streptocide" in tablets can be recommended for use in enterocolitis, cystitis, pyelitis, as well as in diseases of the skin and mucous membranes caused by a bacterial infection. The admissible adult daily dose of the drug is 6 g, a single dose is not more than 1.2 g. In this case, children 3-6 years old are usually prescribed 300 mg per dose, and 6-12 years old - no more than 600 mg. Outwardly, the preparations “Streptocid ointment” and “Streptocid” -powder are used. The use of the latter can also be recommended parenterally (intramuscularly, subcutaneously or intravenously): it dissolves well in water. The drug is also prescribed as part of complex therapy for deep wounds. In this case, the medication "Streptocide" (powder), the use of which, as a rule, gives good results, is introduced into the wound cavity. At the same time, the patient is prescribed antibacterial drugs. Skin diseases are treated both by rubbing ointment (liniment), and by sprinkling with powder.
The drug “Streptocide” (powder), the use of which can be indicated for acute and chronic rhinitis, was previously prescribed to be drawn into the nose when inhaled or blown into its cavity using a special device mixed with penicillin, ephedrine and norsulfazole. However, due to the inconvenience of such treatment for the patient, the Sunoref remedy is now more often used - an ointment, the composition of which is almost identical: it includes streptocide, sulfadimesin, norsulfazole and ephedrine. The medicine "Sunoref" lubricates the nasal mucosa three times a day - it has not only antimicrobial, but also anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictive effects.
The drug "Streptocide" (powder) for sore throat is used as follows: they collect a small amount on a clean, dry spatula and carefully pour it onto the tonsils. After this, you need to try not to swallow for several minutes. The medicine "Streptocide" in tablets is simply absorbed 2-3 times a day, immediately after rinsing the throat. Using the drug “Streptocide” for angina, you can get a good therapeutic effect, however today, due to the emergence of new broad-spectrum antibiotics, this method of treatment is used less and less.
It should be noted that the debate about the feasibility of using the drug "Streptocide" in one form or another dosage form has been going on for quite some time. Today, its scope has significantly narrowed and the use of this tool in many cases is considered inappropriate. At the same time, in various forums on the Internet you can find the stories of users about how this drug helped them effectively and quickly cure various diseases. Some even argue that the displacement of Streptocide with new-generation antibiotics is nothing more than the machinations of pharmaceutical companies that are disadvantageous in having such an effective and cheap medicine on the market.
However, do not forget that during the use of this drug, as well as most sulfa drugs, serious side effects are possible. Among them are nausea, vomiting, severe diarrhea, headache, leukopenia, agranulocytosis. The drug can also cause allergic reactions, up to dermatitis. For this reason, the Streptocide medication in any dosage form cannot be used in the treatment of children under 3 years old, as well as pregnant and lactating women. It is prohibited for use in diseases of the thyroid gland, kidneys, blood and blood. With prolonged use, it is necessary to periodically donate blood for analysis to prevent possible complications. Therefore, most experts still make the choice in favor of modern antibacterial drugs, although the final decision, of course, remains with the patient.
