Probably, there is no such person who would not wait for summer and vacation. After all, these two concepts are inseparable! For most of the population, vacation is always associated with the sea. However, often a pleasant trip ends with sad consequences, one of which is acclimatization after the sea.
What is acclimatization?
Acclimatization is a process of adaptation of an organism to a new environment, in particular, to new weather conditions. A person who changes one climate zone to another has to reorganize both mentally and physically: get used to the new temperature, air, time difference (if there is one).
Children are most likely to suffer acclimatization. This is because their immunity is not quite stable, the body is still weak and subject to various influences. The consequences of climate change can occur in people of retirement age, as well as in those who suffer from chronic diseases.
Acclimatization: symptoms, treatment
In order to quickly overcome the period of acclimatization, you need to know what symptoms it manifests itself. So:
- Elevated body temperature.
- Headache, dizziness.
- Runny nose.
- Diarrhea or, conversely, constipation.
- Cough.
- Disturbed sleep.
- Weakness and fatigue.
Often these adaptation symptoms are confused with infectious diseases or viruses and, of course, they begin drug treatment. However, this therapy is not always the right one; moreover, it can aggravate the process of adaptation to the climate.
To avoid the consequences of acclimatization, a month before the planned trip, you need to take up your body closely. The right way of life, a healthy diet, a complex of vitamins and minerals will help you get used to new environmental conditions less painfully.
Acclimatization after the sea, the symptoms of which can be very different (more often these are SARS symptoms), will be easier if the vacation is planned correctly and the next day you do not need to go to work. It is always necessary to leave time to recover.
Types of acclimatization
Depending on where the vacation is planned, the period of acclimatization can be divided into accustoming to a hot, northern or mountain climate.
One of the most common types of adaptation is adaptation to the marine climate and acclimatization after the sea. The first sign of adaptation to hot countries is a violation of water-salt metabolism. Due to fever, a person consumes a lot of fluids and, accordingly, less food. The body looks tired and exhausted. In parallel, thermoregulation is also violated. People constantly sweat, feel dizzy. Headaches, rapid breathing, drying out and redness of the skin are observed.
Getting used to the cold, northern climate does not pass without a trace. Low air temperature, changing light conditions and lack of sun can cause:
- Drowsiness and fatigue.
- Decreased appetite.
- Hypothermia.
- Insomnia, stress, depression.
Acclimatization in the mountains is rather difficult. Minimal oxygen and high blood pressure can sometimes have a very serious effect on health, especially in people with heart and upper respiratory tract diseases. Shortness of breath, nausea, dizziness, tinnitus are just a small fraction of the symptoms experienced by mountain tamers.
Therefore, the basic rule of any traveler is to prepare the body for the environment in which acclimatization will take place. How is adaptation to new climatic conditions? It also depends on a personβs lifestyle and nutrition.
How to facilitate adaptation?
For any trip, you always need to prepare in advance. Preparation includes not only hotel reservations, packing of suitcases, route planning, but also hardening of the body.

- It does not matter which country and with which climate a person is going to visit, in any case, the process of adaptation is influenced by a healthy lifestyle and proper nutrition.
- To improve the health of the body, rest in a country with other weather conditions should last at least eight to twelve days. With children - up to twenty days.
- To change the time zones did not bring discomfort, it is necessary to carry out correction of the regime of the day and sleep at home.
- It is best to plan a trip so that the arrival falls in the evening. So after a long and tiring journey, the body will rest during a night's sleep and will be less susceptible to stress.
- In the first days of rest you do not need to make long walks and excursions. Going out in the sun is better after 16 pm.
- If it is a mountain climate, do not rush to climb. The distances covered during the day should be limited to 600 meters.
- In northern countries, the main thing is not to get too cold. In addition to warm clothing, it is worth taking windproof jackets with you. In the early days, staying on the street needs to be minimized.
- On any trip, do not forget about vitamins. They will increase the body's defenses.
Acclimatization after the sea
It would seem that could be better than a vacation at sea? Nothing! However, for some, such a vacation is always associated with acclimatization, especially if the trip takes place together with the children. Children with unstable immunity are much more difficult to adapt to environmental conditions - kindergarten, school. What to say about the sea!
That is why they do not tolerate not only the sea, but also the addiction to the home climate after the holidays. This adaptation is called re-acclimatization and may be accompanied by the same symptoms as acclimatization.
To alleviate the condition of yourself and your child, having arrived home after the sea, you need:
- Get enough sleep, give the body a rest.
- It is better to go to work, as well as to a kindergarten (school) after a few days.
- In the first days after vacation, physical and mental stress should be avoided.
- Adhere to the daily routine and eat right (light soups and salads).
- Avoid stressful situations and negative emotions.
- If a cold is observed after the sea, it is important not to feed the body with antibiotics. After a few days, the symptoms will disappear, and taking medication can only aggravate the situation. Vitamins and herbal teas help fight colds.
When acclimatization in a child after the sea does not pass for more than three to four days, you should consult a doctor. It is possible that a childβs body, as well as an adult, could catch some exotic virus or stick.
Rest wisely!
For almost every person, summer is a time of vacation and the sea. The sun, sand, blue waves - that is what they have been dreaming of for a whole year. So that the long-awaited trip does not turn into torture, the body needs to be prepared for rest in other climatic zones.
Acclimatization after the sea is normal. Symptoms of SARS - this is not a reason to "sound the alarm." The correct regimen of the day, healthy sleep and nutrition will help to overcome the period of adaptation.
