"Palace on the Yauza" - an open theater stage in Moscow

Three minutes walk from the metro station "Elektrozavodskaya" is the beautiful building of the theater and concert hall, called "Palace on the Yauza". This is truly a palace that has already turned 112 years old.

People's house

This building was purposefully built under the People’s House, called "Vvedensky" in connection with its location on the Vvedensky mountains (Lefortov Hill).

People’s houses at the beginning of the last century were built in sufficient quantities and were, in fact, generally accessible cultural and educational institutions. The author of the project was Illarion Aleksandrovich Ivanov-Shits (1865-1937), a prominent representative and master of the Art Nouveau style. He is the author of projects of such well-known architectural objects as the buildings of the Lenkom Theater, the Federal Agency for Sea and River Transport and many, many other remarkable objects that currently exist. Ivanov-Shits built the "Palace on Yauza" in 1903, being already a mature master. He died by his death and was buried in the Novodevichy cemetery with all honors.

Enlightenment Care

People’s houses were built on the outskirts, in areas where the working people live. The mission of 10 temples of art built was enlightening - to introduce the poor to the world of beauty. Libraries were located in the People's Houses, and it was planned to create theaters in them.

But to realize these good intentions turned out only in two institutions of this type. The “Palace on Yauza”, then called the People’s House, had an excellent theater troupe created by enthusiasts under the guidance of an energetic philanthropist Alexei Bakhrushin. The repertoire of the theater was wonderful: they put on Shakespeare, and Ostrovsky, and Ibsen. People visited the house with pleasure, moreover, here, as in any theater, there was an inexpensive teahouse.

Temple of Melpomene

Initially, the building was low. The “Palace on Yauza” acquired its majestic outlines after a grand reconstruction carried out in the 40s of the last century. People’s house really turned into a grand palace, made in the style of "Stalin's Empire". In appearance, it is very similar to the Bolshoi Theater. The transformed old building faithfully served Muscovites and guests of the capital.

Metamorphoses

Of course, the owners in it changed. So, the Mossovet Theater, which was led by Yuri Zavadsky, was in its walls from 1947 to 1959. Then the owner was the Television Theater, famous for the fact that the first "Blue Lights" and meetings of KVN teams were held here. The “Palace on the Yauz” (photo is in the article) became famous for the fact that in its walls in the 80s, when the Palace of Culture “MELZ” was located in it, the hard rock parade accompanying the premiere of S. Solovyov’s film was held. But in the troubled times of transformation, the Palace on Yauza would not have survived if it had not rented out its premises.

The Dianetics Center (later the Church of Scientology of Moscow) is located within its walls. The times when various foreign churches gathered tens of thousands of people in stadiums are still memorable. That is, the building has survived to the time of its new revival.

Cultural Center

In 2008, the building was renovated and renamed into the Theater and Concert Hall “Palace on Yauza”, which has all the modern infrastructure of the cultural center. The building is huge and fully consistent with the purpose of the modern rental site. There are several halls (different capacity) - one large and three small. The concert foyer and the Hall of Columns are adapted to any repertoire.

Beauty Hall

The “Palace on Yauza” (the layout of a large hall for 814 seats is attached) meets the most stringent requirements. This hall, which provides for the transformation of the stalls and the stage, is able to provide for her productions of a wide variety of genres.

The dimensions of the stage are 15x22x10, there is a rotary mechanism, as well as an orchestra pit for 60 musicians. Dramatic productions, ballet and opera, musicals look great here. In addition, various festivals can be held here - music, dance, pop. The famous “Palace on the Yauza” is absolutely suitable for everything. The layout of the large hall demonstrates the classical form of the theater. There are absolutely all kinds of spectator places - a stalls and an amphitheater, a mezzanine and a balcony. There are VIP boxes, Benoire boxes, mezzanine and a balcony.

Chamber halls

In addition to this beautiful hall, there are several small rooms - the Column Hall is designed for 112 seats, the two-level concert hall - for 213 (as the concert hall has been functioning since 2011), the Pink, Lilac and Green small halls have 70 seats each. All these facilities involve chamber programs, such as poetic and creative evenings, children's performances, puppet shows and conferences. And, of course, given the tastes of our time, these premises are rented out for corporate meetings and presentations. The scheme of the “Palace on the Yauza” implies only the scheme of a large hall.

Chamber halls are traditional - no amphitheaters and mezzanines.

Stage

Considering the enormous size of the “Palace on the Yauza”, since 2014 it has been made an open theater stage, capable of hosting any teams for the entire period of repair of their main building. The presence of more than one scene allows the production of several performances at once.

In this role, the “Palace on the Yauza”, the layout of the hall which clearly confirms its compliance with the highest requirements, has been acting since 2014. Now the Sovremennik Theater has settled in it, the performances of which are constantly being held in the Great Hall. The season of 2015 was opened with the play "Three Comrades" staged by the theater's main director Galina Borisovna Volchek. It so happened that within the walls of the Palace on the Yauza this legendary theater celebrated its anniversary - in 2016, Sovremennik will turn 60 years old.
