Samara Drama Theater. Gorky has existed for more than a hundred years. His repertoire is rich, and each viewer will find something interesting for himself. The theater building is very bright and beautiful. The name of Maxim Gorky was not accidentally assigned. The Samara Theater was the first in Russia to stage performances based on the works of this playwright.

Theater History

Samara Drama Theater

It is generally accepted that the Samara Drama Theater has existed since 1851. It was then that the first professional permanent troupe appeared in the city. The first season was opened with the comedy "The Examiner". In 1888, a stone building was built for the theater on the banks of the Volga River, where the troupe “lives” to this day. The author of the project was architect M. Chichagov.

In 1901, the premiere of the new play "Thomas Gordeev" based on a play by the then young writer Maxim Gorky took place on the stage of the Samara theater. Previously, his plays were not staged anywhere. Since then, the plays of M. Gorky have been constantly going on not only on the stage of the drama theater of the city of Samara, but also on theatrical venues around the world.

In 1926, the Samara Academic Drama Theater became state. The repertoire has changed. Most of the performances were based on plays by Soviet playwrights.

The thirties of the 20th century were difficult for the theater. The directors changed very often. Actors did not stay long. In 1936, Maxim Gorky died. Then the theater was given his name.

During the war years, the repertoire was special. The corresponding plays were staged. Actors as part of concert teams performed in hospitals in front of wounded soldiers, as well as fulfilling the duties of nannies and wrote letters to their relatives for the wounded. On Victory Day, the theater gave the play "So It Will Be."

In the 60s, the troupe toured in Moscow. Samara drama brought to the capital ten of its best productions. The tour lasted 35 days. The most successful of the ten was the play Richard III. Spectators and critics were delighted with the artwork of the production, as well as the ingenious game of the leading actor N. Zasukhin, who showed great talent to find so many shades of black.

In the 70s, several performances of the Samara theater were awarded state prizes. The production of “Old-Fashioned Comedy” was shown repeatedly on the country's central television. In 1977, the theater became known as academic.

In the 90s, the American director D. Kaplen worked with the troupe. He directed the drama Macbeth by William Shakespeare. The actress of the Samara theater V. Ershova at the end of the 20th century became the laureate of the Golden Mask national award.

In 1998, the Samara theater toured France for a month.

Our days

The Samara Drama Theater entered the 21st century with the comedy Venetian Twins based on a play by Karl Goldoni. The production was staged by the Italian director P. Lundy. Costumes and scenery were created by the artist from Italy S. Migneco. Young actors of the Samara theater are engaged in the play.

In 2001, the Samara Theater organizes a festival in his city, where he takes part with the production of “Eccentrics”.

In 2003, musicals appeared in the repertoire. The very first was the legendary performance “Sounds of Music”.

The Samara Drama Theater is actively collaborating with directors and artists from St. Petersburg.

The troupe's performances have repeatedly become laureates of various festivals. Many actors have awards for best performing roles.

Troupe

The Samara Drama Theater is primarily talented artists. The troupe currently employs 45 actors. Two of them have the title of People's Artist of Russia. This is Zhanna Anatolyevna Nadezhdina (Romanenko) and Vladimir Vladimirovich Borisov.

Awarded the title of Honored Artist of Russia Valentin Viktorovich Ponomaryov, Oleg Konstantinovich Belov, Elena Aleksandrovna Lazareva, Vsevolod Mikhailovich Turchin, Vladimir Alexandrovich Galchenko, Ivan Ivanovich Morozov and Yuri Anatolyevich Mashkin.
