The drug "Arifon Retard" belongs to the category of antihypertensive (diuretic) drugs, sulfonamide derivatives. The active substance is indapamide hemihydrate. The medication helps to increase the excretion of chloride ions, sodium, to a lesser extent - magnesium and potassium ions - in the urine, which is accompanied by an increase in urine output. The drug has an antihypertensive effect in dosages that do not have a pronounced diuretic effect. The activity of the drug is also associated with the ability to lower OPSS and increase the elasticity of arterial walls. The medicine provokes a decrease in hypertrophy in the left ventricle of the heart. On the basis of monotherapy, the antihypertensive effect of the drug is noted during the day after administration.

Contraindications
A medicine is not prescribed for hepatic encephalopathy, severe renal failure, hypokalemia. The Arifon Retard medication is not recommended (the instructions for use warn about this) at the same time as means that contribute to the lengthening of the QT interval. Contraindications include individual intolerance to the components. The medicine is not prescribed during the prenatal period and during lactation. It should be borne in mind that the medication is capable of provoking fetoplacental ischemia, leading to impaired fetal development.

Due to therapy, a decrease in potassium concentration and the occurrence of hypokalemia against this background are likely (in particular, this phenomenon can be expressed in patients at risk). Patients may also have hyponatremia, complicated by hypovolemia, orthostatic hypotension, and dehydration of the body. In rare cases, there is an increase in the content of calcium in the body. While taking Arifon Retard (the instructions for use indicate this), pancreatitis may develop, dry mouth, thrombocytopenia, anemia (including hemolytic, aplastic including), an increase in plasma glucose and urea, constipation, and nausea. Due to intolerance, allergic skin manifestations in the form of rashes, itching, burning or irritation of the cover are likely.
In rare cases, exacerbation of disseminated type lupus erythematosus, attacks of bronchial asthma,
hemorrhagic vasculitis can be observed
. Some patients have asthenia, dizziness, paresthesia, and headaches. As a rule, these effects are eliminated with lower dosages. In the presence of liver failure when taking the Arifon Retard medication (instructions for use warns about this), the risk of developing
hepatic encephalopathy increases
