The disease is caused by ureaplasma - the so-called bacteria that live on the mucous membranes of the human genitals and in the genitourinary system. Previously, doctors identified two types of ureaplasma: parvum and T-960. However, at present they are officially recognized as independent species: Ureaplasma parvum and Ureaplasma urealyticum. It should be noted that both varieties belong to opportunistic microorganisms. Simply put, their presence may well be detected in a perfectly healthy person.

Current medical indicators are as follows: if a person has diseases that can be triggered by ureaplasmosis (for example, inflammatory diseases of the urethra in men, inflammation of the appendages in women), the doctor should check for ureaplasma.
In case you have acute uncomplicated ureaplasmosis, the treatment should be as follows: a single oral administration of azithromycin or a full course of doxycycline (the medicine is taken twice a day for a week). In general, antibiotics for ureaplasma are the only adequate treatment option. If treatment is not done on time, ureaplasmosis can become chronic. In this case, antibiotics and other types of treatment should be combined (physiotherapy, urethral instillation, etc.).
