Nurofen Plus

Relief of migraine attacks can be carried out using various means. These include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, non-opioid analgesics, opioid analgesics, antiemetic drugs and others.

Most often, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are used in practice . This group of medicines includes Nurofen Plus. The composition of the drug includes codeine phosphate and ibuprofen. These components are well known and have long been used in medical practice.

Ibuprofen inhibits prostaglandin synthesis. This, in turn, increases the threshold of sensitivity to pain receptors in nerve afferent fibers. According to a number of studies, ibuprofen also promotes inhibition of leukocytes from the bloodstream into damaged tissues. Thus, neurogenic inflammation is suppressed.

Codeine has a centralized effect. It promotes weak coupling of opioid receptors. Codeine is able to be rapidly absorbed from the digestive tract and metabolized significantly in the liver.

Nurofen plus affects the central and peripheral parts of the course of migraine. According to some experts, the effect of the drug exceeds the effect of taking ibuprofen alone. This is due to the two-component composition of the drug "Nurofen Plus" and a wider spectrum of its action.

The medication is actively used to eliminate the symptoms of respiratory diseases. Nurofen plus has an antitussive, antipyretic and analgesic effect. The analgesic activity of the drug is associated with the activation of opiate receptors of various parts of the central nervous system and in peripheral tissues. Thus, there is a stimulation of the antinociceptin system and a change in the perception of pain at an emotional level.

Nurofen plus is used to eliminate moderate and mild pain. These include toothache, migraine, myalgia, algodismenorea, headache, neuralgia, rheumatic pain. The indications include febrile syndromes of different genesis.

Nurofen plus is not prescribed for hypersensitivity to its components, erosive and ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract during the exacerbation period, with respiratory failure, traumatic brain injuries, intracranial hypertension. The drug is not recommended in the prenatal period, for children under twelve years of age, with breastfeeding. A contraindication is hepatic or renal failure.

Side effects when taking the medication include dyspepsia (including constipation and nausea), epigastric pain, impaired hepatic or renal function, exacerbation of gastrointestinal diseases, increased pain, drowsiness, bronchospasm, weakness, bradycardia. There is (with uncontrolled and prolonged use of the drug "Nurofen Plus") dependence (opioid).

An overdose of the drug is manifested in stomach pains, vomiting, narrowing of the pupil, bradycardia. If symptoms occur, immediate gastric lavage, the appointment of naloxone (an opioid antagonist), and symptomatic therapy are necessary.

The dosage of the drug is one to two tablets every four to six hours. However, the daily dose does not exceed six tablets. In the absence of the effect of treatment after two or three days, a medical examination is necessary.

Long-term medication should be carried out under the constant supervision of a specialist. In this case, control over the picture of peripheral blood and liver condition is necessary. The treatment period involves the exclusion of hazardous activities, which require an increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions, including driving vehicles and working with mechanisms.
