The Moscow Theater of Modern Play (the exact name is the Moscow Theater "School of Modern Play") is quite young. It has existed for about 30 years. In his repertoire, the classic is adjacent to modernity. The troupe has a whole galaxy of theater and cinema stars.
Theater History
The modern playhouse was opened in 1989. Initially, it was an experimental studio. During the perestroika, many such troupes were created, so the competition was fierce. Not everyone was able to survive. The School of Contemporary Play was one of the few who succeeded.
Soon the studio grew into a theater. His repertoire includes only plays written by modern playwrights. The name of the theater reflects this fact. Many of the works that go on his stage were written specifically for him. The troupe of the theater consists of talented professional artists. Many of them are famous for their roles in films and series.
For almost thirty years of its existence, the theater of modern play has presented the audience more than seventy productions. Its main principles are experiment, the constant search for something new, the freshness of receptions. The theater is developing, becoming mature, but at the same time trying not to lose youth. This season (2015-2016), his poster offers 21 staging of various genres. Among them there are performances for children, as well as performances that have become legendary, as they have not left the stage for many years and have withstood a record number of shows with an unchanged full house. One of these performances is "Are you in a tailcoat?"
The contemporary play theater is actively collaborating with outstanding directors of different generations - Mikhail Kozakov, Leonid Heifets, Dmitry Astrahan, Sergey Yursky, Boris Milgram, Stanislav Govorukhin, Ivan Vyrypaev, Boris Morozov and others.
Each year, the theater staged performances by young novice directors. Here they debut as stage directors. The theater provides them with territory for searching, experimenting and gaining invaluable experience.
