But what is the best rock band of all time? And is it so easy to find out? Music magazines and other media have repeatedly compiled their lists of the top 10 rock bands of all time. They got a limited number of performers. Therefore, later they expanded, becoming the 100 best rock bands of all time. But sometimes it seems that this is not enough.
Why is this so interesting?
Rock music is an amazing layer of audio art. So many words have already been said about what kind of freedom it gives rise to in the soul of the listener, what a storm of emotions you can experience when listening to a hit. In addition, rock musicians and quite interesting personalities themselves - their biographies are full of myths and legends, they are full of retells about the ups and downs of geniuses. Alice Cooper, for example, was perplexed, how could rockers leading a rather wild life be able to compose something so soulful? The scandals associated with them - do not list. And representatives of especially difficult genres in principle frighten some people with either their appearance or their antics.

The question of who is better, of course, is always posed by the edge, but it is at this moment that it stands, I must say, quite acutely. History has more than one or two groups that deserve the title of "best rock band of all time." What criteria should I choose? It is not known how much effort was spent on this, but at one time Rolling Stone made several such lists. Having achieved wide distribution and fame, the magazine first comes to mind when it starts talking about all kinds of large-scale music ratings. We’ll start with him.

The famous music magazine loves to please fans with all sorts of ratings. On his account, not only the list of the best rock bands of all time, but also the best rock guitarists (by the way, he was headed by Jimmy Hendricks), and the 500 best songs, made up Rolling Stone and a list of the best films about rock groups. And, of course, the magazine annually publishes a list of the best albums, in his opinion. More global ratings (some of which are listed above) are usually attributed to some significant date, anniversary, anniversary. They can contain from 10 to 500 positions.
So, the best rock band of all time according to Rolling Stone magazine is the incomparable The Beatles. And who will say that these geniuses of rock music do not deserve a high rank? What is true is true - the magazine compiled a list of not only rock bands, but also performers in principle, which, by the way, is also indicative - since music of this particular style came first. The British had a huge impact on the development of rock and forever remained the pioneers of the genre.

Making a list of hundreds of the best rock bands, Hit Parader magazine, specializing in hardrock and heavy metal, announced that the best rock band of all time was KISS. Glam rockers, apparently, very impressed the editors with their talent, and at the same time with a memorable appearance.
The top three also included Van Halen and Guns`n`Roses, second and third places respectively.
Led Zeppelin and Queen - fourth and fifth places. AC / DC and Metallica can be seen in seventh and eighth - surprisingly, in sixth place they were overtaken by Slipknot.
The list is replete with both legendary groups that have already become legendary and well-known contemporary ones - for example, Evanescense, whose lead singer Amy Lee cannot but be remembered for her magnificent vocals, turned out to be 52nd.
What is surprising?
Evanescense in the eyes of Hit Parader were so good that they surpassed John Bon Jovi by one position. A controversial decision - both are quite talented and have a huge number of fans, and John's much earlier fame, as we see, did not help him gain an advantage over Amy.
The rock band Marilyn Manson, in turn, took 10th place thanks to the multi-faceted creative nature of the vocalist. The musician is known not only as a colorful participant in the band of the same name, but also as a terrific watercolor artist. Merlin's amusing achievements were appreciated by Hit Parader, allowing Manson to outperform Ozzy Osbourne and Deep Purple in many positions. Apparently, the glam performed by Marilyn Manson magazine was more impressive than the scandalous episodes featuring Ozzy and his soulful ballads. However, the fact that the latter was on the solo list makes him a great honor.

Classic Rock approached the issue more creatively than its predecessors, and in 2009 published a list of the best vocalists of rock groups. The rating includes fifty lines, which housed the best of the best. The leader in it is the legendary Freddie Mercury, allowing Queen to call her the title "best rock band of all time" as her own.

But speaking of the old school, which has been pleasing with music for a very long time, and most likely will please the already released albums with the same amount of time (given that some of the “oldies” are still in great shape, and just recently released a couple more hits), It is worth mentioning the classics of rock ballads Scorpions and Bon Jovi ratings that were unfairly moved to distant positions. Among those recognizable by name alone: Sex Pistols, Ramones, Pink Floyd and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
And The Doors and Steppenwolf released hits that are heard even by regulars on pop radio stations and not hardcore fans at all.
What about the modern?
You may notice that some of the music magazines, making their ratings, were inclined in favor of rock, already time-tested, and some were glad to include new projects, somewhere even noting their advantage over the "good old". Already, some popular groups are pleased with high-quality music and dare to show hope that they will remain in the hearts of fans for a long time, and may become legends just like their predecessors. Indeed, right, fans, which include up to three generations, cannot but admire the idols.
Who knows, maybe in fifty years 30 Seconds To Mars, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, The Pretty Reckless, The Rasmus, Linkin Park will still be appreciated. Some of them have already celebrated their 15th anniversary, others have ceased to exist, and still others are completely green, no more than five years old. All of them are associated with the rock idols of the new time, new trends, new ideas and solutions. Perhaps they are worth mentioning, if only because they have to compete with legends.
One thing is certain: no ratings will help identify the love of rock music coming from the heart.
