The Overkill rock band was formed from some of the members of The Lubricunts. The team posted an announcement that they needed a guitarist and vocalist. Bobby Ellsworth answered him. As a result, the original composition of the team was born. Overkill did not immediately stop at its name. There were several others before. Among them is Virgin Killer. Early songs were covers of other punk bands. At the end of 1980, the group was replenished with two guitarists and expanded its repertoire. Despite the fact that the group performed covers, its members played with tremendous speed and extraordinary energy. This allows you to attribute the team to the founders of thrash metal.
In 1983, the band released a demo called Power In Black. The work caused a sensation in the near-musical underground circles. Power In Black allowed the band to appear on a pair of music collections. In addition, the team managed to sign a contract with a recording studio called Azra / Metal Storm Records. There, in 1984, EP Overkill was created. The album includes four songs. The work was a success, and the entire issue was sold out very quickly. Thanks to this, Overkill was at the forefront of thrash metal, which was gaining strength at the time. Musicians claim that they did not receive a monetary reward for the above work.
However, the disc aroused interest in the new team. In particular, John Zazula, the owner of Megaforce Records, one of the most famous metal labels, drew attention to the group. The studio signed a contract with the collective for a number of albums and in 1985 created their first full-fledged studio work Feel The Fire. In this paper, the influence of NWOBHM is felt. At the same time, fans and critics most often call it a masterpiece of thrash metal. It was she who approved the group as one of the main groups that works in this direction, both on the east coast of the United States and throughout the country. The group spent almost the entire period from 1985 to 1986 on a tour organized in support of Feel The Fire. The journey to the USA has begun. Then the musicians went to Europe.

Overkill recorded their first album, Power In Black, in 1984. The next work came out at the same time. She was called Overkill. Feel the Fire appeared in 1985. Immediately after the appearance of this work, the team made a tour to support it. The journey spanned both the United States and Europe. In 1987, the album Taking Over appeared. This is the last work in which Rat Skates participated.
