Only the doctor will choose the best sedative for you. But there are situations when it is still not possible to get to the doctor, and a sedative would not hurt. In this case, you should understand the medications of this type in order to understand what to give your preference to.
What are sedatives?
- for children and adults;
- synthetic, from plant materials and combined (from plant-based synthetic components).
According to the effect on the body, all drugs with a calming effect are divided into groups:
- Anxiolytics (tranquilizers). This is a group of psychotropic drugs to extinguish feelings of fear, anxiety, mental stress and other disorders.
- antipsychotics. They are used only by specialists in psychiatric practice.
- Normotimicheskie funds. These are psychotropic drugs that are used in medical practice to stabilize the mood in people with an unhealthy psyche.
- Sedatives. Typical plant-based sedatives (motherwort infusions, valerian, etc.) or medications containing bromine.
Sedatives
This group of medicines in use is most preferable, despite the fact that it does not have such pronounced effects as when using synthetic and combined agents.
A sedative based on valerian, motherwort or lemon balm has significant advantages: sparing effect on the body, the minimum number of adverse reactions, which, as a rule, are reversible.
The most commonly known sedative is valerian drops or tablets. One of the positive properties of medicines based on this plant is to facilitate the rapid onset of the stage of deep falling asleep and sound sleep.
Folk sedatives
In order to balance your nervous system, it is not necessary to take medication. Some centuries-proven methods can give even greater effect than tablets:
- Evening warm baths using a decoction of herbs such as hops, mint, chamomile. At the pharmacy, you can ask for herbal sedatives and use them. For this, the packaging of raw materials is poured with boiling water and allowed to infuse for about ten minutes. Then the infusion must be brought to a boil and set aside for a while. Strain, pour into a bath filled with water to the middle, drop the wet grass there, which must be wrapped in a gauze or canvas rag beforehand. Take a soothing bath before bedtime for 15–20 minutes once a week. Course: 7–10 baths.
- According to the same principle, coniferous or motherwort baths are taken.
- A good sedative is a neck pillow filled with lemon balm, mint, chamomile, hops and chopped valerian root. You can do it yourself.
- Tea. Pour a spoonful of dried hawthorn berries into a thermos and pour cool boiling water overnight. To improve the taste, you can add rose hips to them. Drink half a glass before meals two to three times a day.
Be healthy!
