The active substance of the Metrogil medication is metronidazole, which, when interacting with bacterial proteins inside the cells, provokes the 5-nitro group reduction reaction. After this, the synthesis of nucleic acids, which form the basis of bacterial DNA, is inhibited. As a result of such exposure, cells of microorganisms die. The most effective in the treatment of bacterial infections caused by anaerobes is Metrogil. Instructions for use indicate that the drug, when taken orally in the form of tablets, is well adsorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and penetrates into tissues and biological fluids. Metronidazole in high concentrations is noted in the liver, lungs, skin, brain, kidneys. In addition, in amounts capable of producing a therapeutic effect, the active substance is found in the cavity of abscesses, cerebrospinal fluid, amniotic fluid, saliva, breast milk, vaginal secretion, seminal fluid. The medicine is excreted mainly by the kidneys.
Indications for use
In the form of tablets, the Metrogil medication is recommended for use in the treatment of pathological conditions caused by organisms sensitive to metronidazole, namely:
- protozoal infections (trichomonas level, balantidiasis, amoebic dysentery, giardiasis, amoebic liver abscess, etc.);
- infections caused by bacteria of the genus Bacteroides (meningitis, lung abscess, sepsis, endocarditis, pneumonia, diseases of joints and bones, etc.);
- infections caused by other anaerobes (liver abscess, endometritis, peritonitis, infectious diseases of the vagina, ovaries, fallopian tubes, etc.);
- gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori;
- pseudomembranous colitis associated with antibiotic treatment.
In addition, the Metrogil tablets are recommended for use in skin infections caused by simple organisms. The drug is also prescribed as a prophylactic that prevents the development of
anaerobic infections after surgery. In case of acne (acne), you should use Metrogil gel for the face.
Mode of application
Coated tablets should be taken with or after meals. Chew the pill is not worth it, you must swallow it whole and drink plenty of water. The dosage of the drug and the duration of its administration are determined by the doctor.
