Hypoglycemia: symptoms and treatment

Sugar was called white death, we are scared of carbohydrates from all sides. That's just the brain prefers glucose (only after three days without it, it begins to eat ketone bodies). Therefore, a decrease in its level in the blood is dangerous to the life of a person whose systems for regulating blood sugar are abnormal. Of course, in 95% of cases, hypoglycemia is discussed in connection with diabetes. But those who are losing weight try to prevent it, so as not to eat sweets, hungry. How to determine hypoglycemia without special medical devices?

Hypoglycemia is of three degrees, mild, moderate and severe. The specific figures for the amount of sugar can be individual for different people. After all, the brain is unique, as a unique personality. So:

Mild hypoglycemia: symptoms

These symptoms also occur in healthy people, they are simply unpleasant, but not dangerous:

  • nausea, and against the background of hunger, when, in principle, there is nothing to tear;
  • a strong, “bestial” feeling of hunger when you want to eat too much pain in the stomach;
  • anxiety unreasonable by external circumstances, sudden timidity;
  • sticky cold sweat in the absence of physical load;
  • heart palpitations, which are very unpleasant;
  • numbness of the lips or fingertips.

Medium hypoglycemia: symptoms

With moderate hypoglycemia, the nervous system will suffer, so urgent action is needed. Watch out if you have:

  • sudden changes in mood, anger, irritability, intolerable feeling of anxiety are manifested;
  • inability to concentrate, slow thinking, a sense of confusion;
  • dizziness and pain, the image "floats";
  • weakness, it is difficult to get out of a lying position;
  • impaired coordination, awkward movements , a person touches objects more often than usual;
  • it is difficult to talk, stuttering and long pauses during a conversation may appear;
  • drowsiness and falling asleep even in uncomfortable conditions (you can’t sleep, a coma can begin!).

Already at this stage it is necessary to take measures. If it’s a diabetic - candy lollipop and insulin. If not a diabetic, call an ambulance. Describe in detail the condition to the operator.

Severe hypoglycemia: symptoms

Life-threatening condition. It appears:

  • cramps or seizures;
  • coma or loss of consciousness;
  • a sharp drop in temperature.

In this condition, the nonmedic cannot help. If it is bad for your loved one - only an ambulance will save. The brain does not receive nutrition and dies if it lasts long enough. The heart is very affected, especially if there are any pathologies in its blood supply (and there are very few cardiologically healthy ones). If assistance was not urgently provided, the person dies. Therefore, even at the stage of moderate hypoglycemia, one must actively seek medical help.

Hypoglycemia in children is no less dangerous. A child cannot always describe his symptoms so that a person without a medical education understands it. The child has trembling limbs, drowsiness, sweating, irritability, pallor of the skin and an unusually strong hunger.

Hypoglycemia, the symptoms of which we discussed, can be observed not only in diabetes, but also with increased production of insulin (often in children). In both cases, it is possible to help a loved one or yourself only with a mild or moderate degree of severity of the condition (and even then with an average one you need to be vigilant and call an ambulance if the first measures are ineffective).

Mild hypoglycemia treatment involves mainly dietary. In diabetes, you need sugar monitoring and eating while lowering it, in combination with insulin. And with hyperinsulinism, nutrition is frequent, a person should receive regular mild physical activity, and foods high in carbohydrates are excluded.

Sugar deficiency is a serious condition, so if it’s bad for a person nearby, do not try to determine the degree, but seek help.
