Many are aware of such a story by the brothers Arkady and Boris Strugatsky as “Picnic on the Sidelines”. The work tells about the stalker Redrick Schuhert, who lives in a town called Harmont. The main character makes money by hiking in the Zone - a strange place where the laws of physics do not apply.
On the basis of this story, as well as Andrei Tarkovsky’s film “Stalker” and the really existing Exclusion Zone of the Chernobyl NPP, a whole fictional universe STALKER was created. The franchise includes video games and books.
Many writers have taken part in the writing of the books in the series. One of them is the science fiction novel Roman Glushkov. His authorship belongs to the eighth and sixteenth. The books Lead Sunset and Cold Blood were published in 2008.
Biography
Roman Glushkov was born on February 11, 1975 in the city of Toguchin, which is located near Novosibirsk. His father was a doctor, and his mother worked as a math teacher at school. In addition to Roman, his older brother Eugene also grew up in the family.
At the age of 12-14, Roman began to create his first works - these were “ironic,” as the author himself calls them, stories and novels. Glushkov says that he was inspired by the work of Mikhail Chernenko and Fenimore Cooper.
After graduating from school, Roman Glushkov served in the army. It is known that he took part in the events that took place in Moscow in October 1993. After the service, Glushkov worked for 10 years as a mechanic at the Bogatyr enterprise. After that, he sold various DVDs with films and computer programs at Computerra for a year.
Glushkov’s first published work was the science fiction novel The Age of the Steel Cross, released in 2003.
Bibliography. Lead Sunset and Cold Blood
In 2008, Glushkov joined the authors who wrote books for the STALKER series. At the beginning of the year, the novel Cold Blood was released, and at the end, Lead Sunset. Books make up a dilogy cycle.
The main character of Cold Blood is Major Konstantin Kupriyanov, an operative in the military intelligence agency. Fulfilling the order of the high command, he penetrates the Zone. His mission is to find the stolen Purga-D missile system and not allow sectarians to take it over with the goal of destroying the Heavenly Spider stronghold.
Kupriyanov is also at the center of events of Lead Sunset. Now his name is Major Kalter, and together with the stalker Mrakobes, he goes to Pripyat. Along the way, they are pursued by Colonel Skull, who wants to take revenge on Calter for killing his brother.
Despite the fact that the novels “Cold Blood” and “Lead Sunset” are almost unrelated in plot, after reading the second book, you can recognize Kupriyanov from an unexpected angle. Also the thoughts and feelings of his ally - Aloha.
Creativity besides STALKER
In addition to Cold Blood and Lead Sunset, Glushkov wrote about two dozen science fiction novels. Most of them are divided into series - The Epoch of the Steel Cross, Mentalibert, The Sword in the Sleeve, Death Zone and others. The works outside the cycles are “A Reason for Panic”, “Odium's Battle Dogs”, “Emergency Team” and “Antey Rage”.
The latest book by Roman Glushkov, entitled “Hunting,” which is part of the series “Disaster Season,” was released in 2013.
